I openly admit, i used to hate Holyfield (being a Tyson fan) however ive studied the great mans career and ive become a big fan of him and i believe he is one of the best heavyweights ever. Greatest CW of all time and one of the top great heavys. However, i do feel his win over Tyson is slightly overrated. A good win yes, not a great win, certainly not on the level of a Ali/Foreman or Frazier/Ali in my book.
The one measure you didn't mention is resume. In that respect, Vitally can't hit Holyfield on the bum with a handfull of rice.
Why would I have I'll feelings about the cold war? I'm 25 and dont remember it at all. History ain't ny bag I dunno if the cold war was even going on during my lifetime. Holy beat a prime bowe and took more rounds off a prime Lewis than vitali did (without getting his face caved in). I'd say holy is a fairly big favourite to outpoint vitali.
It all depends on whether or not the historian in question feels that hanging around too long and getting your ass beat over and over again is a small matter, or if it tarnishes and degrades the boxer.
He certainly is. But I'd be hard pressed to elevate him above Holmes or Foreman. He's a bit outside my top 10, and I don't see history moving him up.
What is a blown up cruiser? Holyfield has heavyweight dimensions. The cruiserweight division is a recent innovation. Before it existed, Holyfield would have simply been a heavyweight, and not a small one next to the likes of Marciano, Walcott, Charles, etc.
That is question is flawed and misleading. You call Holyfield a cruiserweight, but he's no more of a cruiserweight than Joe Louis or Archie Moore.
History will certainly remember him as one of the greatest warriors ever to go through the ropes, if nothing else. A great Cruiserweight and great Heavyweight.
The irony. When did Holy fail a test, by the way? I think in general boxing fans are going to have to find a way to resolve the PED issue. Many just seem to ignore it while the others act as if it's a crux against their entire ATG placement. There's no real consistency, and there are no real good answers.
This seems true for both K brothers. Which seems odd. They go into camp and gain weight? I know they're fit and they lift early on in camp (Only early on), but they're burning nearly 8000+ calories (A lot whatever it is) and gaining purely muscle. Most old time boxers talked about how they were going to trim down to get in the best possible weight. Ali talked it up like he would get to 201 against Foreman to prove how in shape he'd be (Exaggerated, obviously). But somehow these brothers come in to camp and burn all these calories, look leaner than ever while not just gaining muscle but gaining weight (Because they're gaining more muscle than losing fat, somehow). It's a little odd.
Great fighter only 4 time hwt champ and came so close to a 5th vs Valuev he made be fighting well beyond his yrs but he is still winning, something guys in their 40's usually dont do and he comes in fit and in good shape and his performances dont tarnish the sport or his legacy Best heavyweight of the 90's and was in some real battles. He will be remembered because well he just flat out fought always had great exchanges and i loved those hook and uppercut combinations he threw i could see him ranked all time in any host of spots between 5 and 15
