Why don't fighters just throw the over hand right against the shoulder roll?

I try that all the time in amateurs and they literally break apart. The over hand right is a very very good move against the shoulder roll and I done it again and again in sparring as well as in am matches. This is a really easy concept and I don't understand why guys like Cotto didn't just throw the over hand right non stop against Floyd?

I'm not an 'ATG'. I haven't even turn pro yet, but the over hand right is common sense to throw. It really speaks of the incredible lack of talent in this era. For instance. Leonard vs Ayube.. Ayube attempted the Shell round 4-5, all Leonard did was throw the over hand right a dozen times and it breaks the shell apart. You are not going to be countered if you throw the over hand right.

That wasn't a over hand right. That was a right hook. This is why I don't like posting here. So many keyboard warriors who never box a day in their lives.

  8. Shane Mosley did land an overhand right that got Mayweather's attention in round 2 of their fight.

But I disagree, an overhand right can easily be countered with a philly shell defense. Dude just needs to pull back then come with a straight right himself.

    Yup, he did.

Floyd Mayweather quickly adapted to him though and Shane never landed that shot again, and when he tried, he got countered over and over.

As opposed to guys like you that hit a heavy bag a few times with headgear on and think you're some boxing oracle?

If you don't like posting here, then don't!

    No need to be hostile.

I've sparred countless times and frequented the gym through the years, I don't feel a need to shove it down their throats on some forum. We are all here as fans, you sir, need to lighten the **** up.

Ya.. because being an amateur is 'hitting the heavy bags' only right? I'm going to Baku. What the hell are you going? The toilet? If you can't even tell the over hand right from the right hook, you are stupid. The difference between me and you is you put pictures of guys in avatars and be a hard core fan of them. I one day might fight them.

If there's an angle for it , it can land , but like any right it can get deflected off the shoulder -- but it depends on the angle and where your throwing the punch from. In the case of Floyd , he likes to roll his shoulder and pull his head / waist down, so it still makes it difficult to land.

The bottom line with any right hand is it needs to be timed. The best way to get it through is to use feints and mix up your attack . The jab is also key,

Watch Ray leonard vs. FLoyd Mayweather Sr, that's a good example how to break a shoulder roll. You can almost turn that defense into a handicap if u know how to pick it apart.
