Why don't fighters just throw the over hand right against the shoulder roll?

I actually liked what Rios did to Alvarado. I know Alvarado is not a prodigy with the shoulder roll but he was blocking shots pretty good from Rios. Specially the right hand. Rios did what I always thought "should" work. He would come in and jump to his left to give him an angle for the left hook and kept tagging Alvarado with it. It kept Alvarado guessing on whether he should focus on nullifying that right hand or be wary of that leaping move followed with a left hook.

That is one of the reasons I feel Rios can beat Broner. He is going to get inside on him just like Rees did and pull that move which Rees did as well but with real power.

 

You're an idiot, the straight right is literally the punch the shoulder roll is designed to defend against. It might work against bum opponents who don't counter back and let you throw continuous right hands but against anyone who can fight and use that style they'll be begging you to throw right hands as often as possible. Good luck with your boxing career, I hope you've got some athletic talent to fall back on.

I don't know about the straight right, but I'd of thought a shovel hook from an orthodox fighter of an uppercut from a southpaw would be more effective against an orthodox shoulder roll. - Especially Floyd, as he ducks down to his right a lot and for this reason I think he neglects his shoulder roll more against south paws, because he'd be open to be KO'd by an uppercut.

In order for you to land that overhand that reaches over your opponents shoulder, you have to be right in front of your opponent in order to get that reach, unless you are a tall mofo.
