Floyd will be remembered very fondly, but he won't be ahead of the likes of SRR,Pep,Armstrong and so on.

No he is not, and if you dont know why he isnt even close to that stop watching boxing or take the time to actually learn something about past ATG fighters...

It's up there, but i like super-middleweight Bob Fitzsimmons knocking out the reigning heavyweight champion with one punch.

No, he never even proved himself the undisputed greatest of his own era despite being offered to participate in one of the biggest fights in history, for more money than he ever got for any other fight, vs a naturally smaller fighter. Its blasphemy to compare him to the elite greats like Sugar Ray Robinson etc.

As far as being the best rather than greatest ?... still no, his offence is too limited & he`s too inactive with it, his defence is up there with anyone`s in history though, his concentration & dedication to be in pristine condition for every fight is up there with the best ever, his adaptability is very impressive, he has a good killer instinct (although still way short of someone like SRL in this department), he has good speed, good athleticism & average power.

There is not a quality of mayweather`s that I could say he is the best ever at & there were better overall fighters as well.

The answer to the thread title is a definite 100% NO

    Joe Louis
    Muhammad Ali
    Sugar Ray Robinson
    Henry Armstrong
    Mickey Walker
    Harry Greb
    Pernell Whitaker
    Sugar Ray Leonard
    Thomas Hearns
    Ezzard Charles
    Michael Spinks
    Tony Canzoneri
    Benny Leonard
    Willie Pep
    Joe Gans
    Stanley Ketchel
    Sam Langford

those are 17 that IMO are simply untouchable. It's simply harder for modern fighters to match the accomplishments of old school fighters. So those IMO there is no valid argument that Mayweather is better resume/accomplishment-wise although you can always make the argument head to head, which is only one factor.

Then there are others such as:
    Ike Williams
    Carlos Monzon
    Carles Burley
    Holman Williams
    Archie Moore
    Terry McGovern
    Jimmy McLarnin
    Ted Lewis
    Jack Johnson
    Bob Fitzsimmons
    Gene Tunney
    Jack O'Brien
    Joe Frazier
---who most would put above Mayweather and they'd probably be right, and you're already at 30.
Then more recent fighters such as:
    Ruben Olivares
    Julio Cesar Chavez
    Erik Morales
    Lennox Lewis
    Evander Holyfield
    Roy Jones Jr.
    George Foreman
    ---
then some other guys who are respected but overlooked b/c they fought so long ago like
    Nonpariel Jack Dempsey
    Barbados Joe walcott
    Kid Chocolate
    Jimmy Wilde
and I forgot Kid Gavilan. So we're at the 35 range.

I don't agree that everyone I named should be higher than Mayweather, but the highest he could possibly rank is 25th, but more realistically he is around 35 IMO.

Ok lets put my 2c worth in here......

1... First of all I am not a Mayweather hater. I do not hate any fighter.

2... Floyd is probably one of the most naturally God Given talented boxer ever. His skills are incredible.

3.... Sadly skills alone to not make an ATG fighter. He must also have been blessed with the courage, heart & cojones of a real champion

4... Floyd was not blessed with these 3 atributes to go along with his talent.. The way he has blatently ducked every dangerous opponent he could has decimated his resume

5... So in all fairness there is NO WAY I could ever rank Floyd in the top 75 ATG's although with his God Given talents he should be there

6... Who is to blame for this? No one else but FLOYD himself!!!!
If Floyd had fought Paquaio, Margarito, Martinez etc he may wel have beaten them all. Even if he lost his credibility would be a lot higher now because of his blantant ducking.

So finally my answer is NO!!!!!!!!!! Floyd does not deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as Ali SRR etc. He will always be remembered as the biggest waste of boxing talent ever :hi:

If he had to face the competition these other men faced, he wouldn't be undefeated.

I wouldn't classify Mayweather as being the greatest fighter of his generation, let alone of all time. I think De La Hoya, and to a lesser extant Pacquiao, transcended the sport in a manner that FMJ hasn't been able to do at any point in his career.

That said, I do think Mayweather's the best fighter of his generation; and arguably has the best run in the 130lb division. That's pretty good, all things considered.
