Anyone else think that he slurs his words from time to time?

I was wondering that myself. Thought he looked drunk in that pre-fight video there. :huh Dunno if it was just a nervous tick or something.

I'm sure he was badly beaten up and mugged a few years ago? That might be something to do with it.

Unbeaten and former European champion 'Dazzling' Darren Barker was commended by a judge for his bravery after intervening in the violent assault of a man, by two others during the summer.

The events unfolded during the world cup games on Watford Street, after watching the England vs Slovenia game, the boxer then headed with a friend to a Subway to get something to eat.

It was outside whilst sitting at a bench that the assault on the man was carried out by the other two. Barker intervened to stop the attack, but was set about by up to TEN other men, who were friends of the attackers.

Barker was knocked to the floor and repeatedly kicked in the face and head. The resulting damage included over a thousand pounds worth of dental work to the brave boxer.

The three men of the gang who the courts managed to find guilty were lucky to avoid custody and have all been issued with curfews and ordered to pay Barker £500 compensation. After commending Barker's bravery the judge awarded a further £250.

Iain Hughes (aged 22), Jake Simmons (20) and Lloyd Osborne(25) all from Watford, admitted being guilty of affray.

Barker, who withdrew from the Matthew Macklin defence of his European title, later relinquished the belt to the challenger.

A purse bid between the two fighters has now been called and is hopefully set to take place shortly.

Good to know our justice system has its priorities right. I could go and write something silly on Twitter and end up in clink, but if I go down the street and set on someone with a bunch of pals it's a slap on the wrist.

I know. Makes me ****ing sick. Free after permanently damaging someone's health, but freedom of speech? Course not.

    Hertfordshire mate. Barnet.

I said this to my dad, He's been slurring for a while. But seems to be boxing even better then before so he's got his wits about him still.

Agree. They should have took half of their earnings, whether employed or not for the rest of Darrens life and paid it to him, after jail.Hes had terrible luck and seems a great lad as someone on here who knows him confirms.Unfortunately, don't think either him or Macklin is good enough to take the title off any of the holders.Best chance for them is if Murray pulls it off and defends against them.

you know i was thinking the same thing with darrens speach after that very interview plus i seen 1 midweek when he had a chelsea top on and his speach was much the same, it only seems like a few months ago when he sounded pretty clear.
