Charles said it was a punch. Marciano contended it was a headbutt. Has it ever been determined from studying the film?
I believe for the last 49 yrs it has been an excepted fact that it was an elbow. I've never heard headbutt by The Rock's people.
If you ended up like this after a fight, I'm sure you'd want to get your own back in the rematch, too: This content is protected Charles kept a small razor in his hair (glued) which he planned to rub over Marciano's face. The razor fell out not long into the fight so Charles just punched his nose open.
It's seems pretty universal now, but i've watched the fight a few times, and it was definately an uppercut, not an elbow as many historians claim.
I think looking of the film, it was a little of both the uppercut and elbow, Charles follow though all the way, Hitting Rocky's face with his whole arm on the way up.
It's an unusual injury are there any other examples of a split nose in this way? Being cut on the bridge isn't uncommon but a tear at the nostril is not something I have seen anywhere apart from Marciano
They say it was an elbow so did Marciano I think. Hard to tell without HD slow mo replay with multiple angles
