Jones vs Calzaghe

Yes it was a good win. Calzaghe had only just gone to LHW and was champ.
Calzaghe was also old shot and bloated.

Remember how after Jones lost to Calzaghe that Jones fought Lebedev a while later.
In that fight he was stopped in the final round against D Lebedev. On

and could have been given the benefit of a KD in the last round before the stoppage. In Lebedevs previous fight he fought world champ M Huck to a SD which many felt he won.
Lebedev then fought J Toney and beat him in every single round, and nobody felt Toney was shot before the fight and if they really did, I never heard anyone say Toney was more shot than Jones. I read quite alot of people felt Toney was going to win and Toney was more proven at CW than Jones.

So now how shot do you think Jones was. Jones chin has never been the best as evidenced by how badly shook up he seemed when Lou Del Valle caught him flush and put him down.

If we look at Jones 2 fights against Lebecev and Hopkins where he lost -
Against Lebedev Jones was ahead on one card in the final round and unlucky not to have a KD scored against a CW who had just fought a world champ to a SD and
Against Hopkins, Jones scored a KD that Hopkins made out was behind his head as he wasnt able to continue without some time out and Hopkins went on to become recognised as the LHW champ and is a champ again. That could have been a KO win for Jones.

Look at how Jones straight after Calzaghe looked good in beating sheika in 5 one sided rounds. The same Sheika who gave Diaconu a then top 10 LHW a tough fight.
Or how Jones looked impressive in beating J Lacy.

No doubt some fanboys will feel threatend by this question and bring up Calzaghe, but just try and be real men and answer the question.

You make me laugh out loud when you say Joe was bloated. Do some research. The last 4 years he spent at 168 were a living hell for him! He starved himself. His 175 camps were great because he ate better and didn't have to lose as much weight.

As for you listing the people who thought Roy would win, why don't you balance it out and list the guys who thought Joe would win.

I think this pretty much answers the question. I was a pretty big Calzaghe fan, but a prime Roy Jones Jr. would have beaten him easily.

Was Lacy green having his 6th world title fight? Lacy was the favourite and an undefeated SMW world champ with a better SMW resume than most of the current SMW top 10.
Then there was Mitchell, Reid, Woodhall, Brewer, Veit, Kessler, Eubank who were all SMW world champs also at some point not to forget all the other top 10 SMW names

 

Roy was shot to ****, the victory means very little.
