It takes alot of guts to duck an entire division and have to endure all the criticism that goes with it.:rofl
Not very happy with this fight. Sure on paper its a step up two weight classes but Broner could weigh as much if not more than Malinaggi on the night; Malinaggi is a small 147'lber. Also, I like Malinaggi but he is a relatively poor champion who is lucky to still have his belt in the eyes of many after the Cano fight, and he has no power. On paper its a hard fight in ways (vs a 147 champion) but bigger threats lie in the 140lb division and maybe even in the 135 division (Burns Vasquez). I think he is well capable of beating these two at 135 and cleaning out the division and stepping up to 140 then. I wonder will he stay at 147 after the Malinaggi fight, what fights there is he targeting I wonder?
There was an article on Floydhype which said HBO, in the wake of Mayweather leaving them, are eager for Broner to campaign at 147. If he fights and beats Paulie to get hold of his belt, chances are he'll remain there.
not the ideal fight. fight at welter makes it seem like he dont want none of them big names at 140. eventually tho he has to get it on with the top 140's. this must be a buisness move but its not very good choice for broner but yes it if for paulie. at this point a loss to paulie doesnt realy do any damage to his career . hes just gunna make a solid pay day n thats wut i think hes in it for. after losing to khan i kno hes not on the same level as guys like broner. an he got his gig on showtime how hungry can he be? i think there are guys at 135 who earned a shot at broner n more deserving then paulie. but paulie is a step up in class and bigger guy but not very powerful
I mean it is a step up fight. if he fights paulie just for watching how it is to fight in a weight class 2 times higher from were he is from than its okay. if he keeps fighting 'okay guys instead of top world class, than f....... him. I am a bit surprised why he is not stepping 1, but right away 2 weight classes. danny and matthyse, rio or judah, enough options for broner.
I hope Ring don't get more carried away and do something stupid like move him higher up the P4P list if/when he beats Malinaggi.....
instead of light punching matthyse, rios and garcia, you take the hard punching paulie mallignaggi :hammertimefloyd move for sure.
Stepping up? To Paulie Malignaggi? LOOOOOOOOL. Forum needs to get real. Bet he ducks 140 altogether. Bet he fights Guerrero when Mayweather is done with him... -.-
stepping up in weight I meant´, not in terms of quality. I think demarco has as much quality than paulie boxing wise. no guerrero to tall and rough n tough for broner. broner will face light hitting devon alexander.
People are getting carried away here. Broner was fighting at 130 last year and Mallignaggi is a top ranked WW. Paulie has been in with elite fighters, and is one of the toughest fighters out there as well as being fast and elusive. This is no easy fight for Broner. Paulie is a completely different animal to the likes of Rees.
If this happens, Broner best forget about making the most of his career. This will be the worst decision he could ever make and I'm sure his close advisors wont let him do it. Broner may not be the force at 135/140 that everyone expects him to be if he does indeed take this fight at 147 as we all know what happens to fighters who fight coming down in weight. He should take his time at 135/140, build up his name, calibre of opponents, experience with different styles and develop into a 147lb fighter naturally. He's getting to big for his boots by talking of fighting at 147lbs. Let's face it, he has massive potential, but he's not in the position that Pacquiao or Marquez were in. He's so much younger and less accomplished, I fail to see how this is a 'great' fight and how this is a positive move for his career.
