Well, that depends if you consider that a victory for Calzaghe. I had Bernard winning a close fight. Anyhow, the fact that Calzaghe hung with Bernard is impressive for a guy who slaps like a lil' *****.
It's an annoying little trend that has developed after the fight. People claiming that Hopkins should have been given the decision. It was a close fight sure but actually a pretty clear and easy one to score. I can't see how anyone can find enough rounds for Hopkins to give him the win.
Peep this. Gonna agree with all the fat British ****s here. Slappy beat Hopkins by a close decision. And I'm from Philly, so I'm a little biased towards Hop. Fact is, styles make fights. Slappy landed more shots than Hopkins. Even though they were slaps and wouldn't hurt a 4 year old girl barring Jeff Lacy, Slappy still won. But the facts are Hop is still greater p4p than Slappy. Don't think Slappy makes it in the top 100 p4p but Hopkins is like a top 40.
Dont particularly like b hop but respect him greatly but i had calzaghe winning by a point or 2 from what i remember in possibly the dullest fight i ever watched.
How can people think Hopkins won? He didn't deserve to win at all because what little he did do, he did it due to being a cheat. He got away with too much. Faking low blows to rest and just overall being a *****. Yet Calzaghe still beat him. Again, now way Hopkins deserved the nod.
Yeah its an old post before Dawson/Hopkins. It was the highest scorecard against Hopkins when he beat Hopkins and it took a fighter 18 years younger against an older Hopkins to get a point better
Calzaghe beat Hopkins the best version of Hopkins to be beaten, but lets not let that overshadow Hopkins amazing career and how he is still able to be a champ at 48 even if the era is weak, its an impressive feat. The real issue I see with Hopkins and Calzaghe is that because they were so dominant and good at winning, it has left a weak era where roads lead back to them. There are not many fighters now at MW SMW or LHW that would have lived with them, if any. Look at all of the top SMWs and LHWs and the road leads back to Calzaghe ultimately, with Hopkins after.
That certainly puts final nail into argument that Joe Calzaghe somehow beat "shot" version of Hopkins.
Yeah, a 44 year old who carefully picks his shots to conserve stamina was in his prime. How stupid can one be.
It was a 43 year old Hopkins and you forget that Calzaghe had also had a long career, jumped up in weight and was also old. what does that say about people like Dawson, where he calls beating a fighter 18 years older than him a result? or Cloud losing to a fighter 17 years older, same thing with Pascal. Its not Calzaghes only win, consider that Calzaghe has a win over Eubank and undefeated Kessler which is better than any win of Hopkins and Calzaghe has the Hopkins win :good. Leave it there sub Par, before you get out of your depth
