Lol. I'm giving broner a great chance to beat paulie though. Broner i think at ww will bring his power and speed in which if that happens? Paulie will have a huge problems.

The guy cant punch yet has managed to make it to the highest levelk of boxing.

Hes loud,brash,and dresses like a guido, but is arguably the toughest guy out there.

Thurman probably beats Paulie in a close fight. But Thurman still sucks

 

Hes been a top 10 fighter at 140/147 for about a decade now.

If you dont consider that top level, I dont know what to say to you.

 

So being a top 10 fighter means he's on the highst level? lol. What was paulie's best win? Small lightweight Diaz who cant punch to save his life?

 

Yes,being in the top 10 in the world is the hightes level in pretty much any sport one cares to talk about.

Its like saying an NBA player is a joke because hes only pkaying with the Bobcats. Or a soccer player isnt top level because he only plays with Sunderland.

Or saying a NFL player is **** because he only plays with the Bills.

So yes,the top 10 in the world in your sport at your category IS the highest level.

Millions of people box,how many make it to Paulies level? 1%? 0.5%? less?
If you dont realise that being well inside the top 1% of people who participate in your sport is the highest level,then you need to seriously re-evaluate things.

 

Five observations on Thurman:

1) Thurman bounces around too much...I'd love to see him be more conservative with his movements. He has an awkward style and so far the fighters he's faced haven't been good enough to adjust to the awkwardness of his movements. But once he faces fighters that can, all that bouncing around makes him fairly easy to time. He looks like a freakin' metronome. So basically the first high level boxer he faces is going to give him a lot of problems.

2) You'll notice (despite what cheerleading Lampley said) he never adjusted to that over hand right he was getting tagged with all night. Not a good sign if you have predictable movements.

3) Another thing is that the shuffle to the left then back to the right and start throwing punches was pretty much the main trick he used to land all night. He'll need to learn some more tricks cause any boxer that isn't a total flat foot like the guy he was fighting last night isn't going to fall for that ****.

4) Last point he as good punch variety but like Ward was saying he throws them all at the same speed and with the same power. Yall know what that means......counter city.

5) He can't fight inside. He's not totally useless but last night was a pretty clear indication that he doesn't have great skills in close. If he did he would have finished that fight very early. The worst was a moment, I think it was in the 9th round, where Zaveck and Thurman were in the clinch and the both broke at the sametime. Zaveck was squared up to Kieth and open for short hooks but instead he took a step back, cause he needed to go back outside to reset his offense.

Anyways my point is that Keith Thurman is supposed to be a marketable guy because he's a confident speaker and a big puncher. But what comes out of his mouth isn't all that interesting and he has too many deficiencies to beat the all rounders at the top of his division.

 

Paulie has paid his dues in the game, **** Thurmans call out.

Really good observations there which should be sobering for the Thurman fans with the exception of the last paragraph perhaps which is the most subjective bit of what you wrote. If Thurman has the open mind for it then this fight gives him a lot to think about and learn from. A lot of what you said I hadn;t really noticed until you pointed it out.

 

Berto had a story coming up out of the Olympics.

He was hyped far earlier than Broner ever was.. Also Berto had an exciting pro-style throughout his coming up, with quite a bit of televised events.

I totally agree with this point; however, its my experience that when it comes to punchers I never get to carried away with their potential or what they could be if they were able to "learn" from a fight. Because unlike traditional boxers its like 50:50 whether they do or don't. Sometime you get guys like Groves who clearly improve fight to fight....other times you get guys like Lemieux who don't....From what I've seen of Thurman he does seem like an open minded intelligent practitioner of the sport. Even him talking about his monnicer of "One-time" being a reminder to him that all it takes is one-time (both for and against), is a positive sign that he's the type of guy that can learn for mistakes. But again with punchers I prefer to see the changes then give them the benefit of the doubt. Cause the road to a world championship is littered with punchers that at one point or another started believing their own press clippings and stopped listening to their trainers. Lets hope the incident at the press conference last night wasn't the start of that for Thurman. I hope he proves me wrong but frankly when a guy who's never even been put in the ring with a legitimate challenge starts trying to "son" a two weight world champion IMO it is not a great sign.

So basically ya, the last paragraph was pretty subjective but their's the thinking behind it. Also everything is relative. If thurman was in an easier weight division it probably wouldn't be as imperative that he do everything right....but the top dogs at the two weight divisions he can fight in happen to be the best, most complete fighters in boxing. So if he wants in on the big money he'll have to develop the right way.


On the positive side though the good things that we learned about Thurman were:
1) His composure even in the late rounds was good.
2) he can take a punch.
3) He has very good stamina

All good things to add to the talents we know (two handed power, good punch variety, athletic and the ability to fight off both the backfoot and front foot).
