They consistently fill stadiums and deliver over 50% TV ratings in their home country. The problem is that US boxing fanbase is the same as Jerry Springer target audience so it takes very different personality to excite them.
Nah, that's Yank-centric bull**** to make them feel better at night. There's nothing concrete to back it up. The era is **** because the best won't fight the best, everyone's scared of the champ, butterballs like Solis are considered legit contenders, and hardly anyone has any sort of personality worth talking about. Get Adamek fighting Povetkin, Pulev fighting Helenius, Haye fighting Vitali, Jennings fighting Wilder and so on and you already have a half decent division. Inject a few personalities and some pre-fight trash talk from the Eastern Euros and I'd even be able to muster some of the old excitement up again. Till then it's ****.
Nope. Quality is sub-par but it's not totally awful. Era is weak because the best fights aren't being made.
The Klitschko brothers will always be very good fighters without that rival opponent that made them shine. Wlad had a chance to impress with the Haye fight and he played it safe. Vitali had the chance to do it bu he's staying quiet.
which cruiserweight? dont say to me the 90es was a good era? with the likes of berbick and smith as world champions. pleaseatsch
Tyson at 220 pounds would be a cruiserweight? Yeah you're real smart. What dont you understand about what we call "weight limits?" Tyson KO'd guys as big as Klitschko while weighing a mere 215! You're not too bright pal.
Either way it's a sorry state of affairs when top contenders refuse to fight the champ, or indeed each other, and when any title fight is instantly considered a "cash out" for the challenger involved.
Because 2 guys are tag teaming the division. It's gay as ****. Then the 3rd best fighter in the division is off doing reality TV getting bit up by mosquitoes. Anything else?
Huck DID beat Povetkin and ther German forums can F off. Huck won at least 7 rounds and rocked Povetkin numerous times. Where not stupid. We all saw the fight and Huck won. Marco Huck robbed in Germany against Alexander Povetkin We look back at the best of the weekend's boxing action, including Alexander Povetkin's defeat of Marco Huck By Mike Pope "...two officials deemed the bout to be one sided in nature with scores of 116-113 and 116-112. These two officials were wrong and robbed Huck of what was a brilliant performance. The man from Serbia was outweighed by his opponent by 20lbs in his first heavyweight bout but he put on a magnificent performance and deserves a rematch for his skills in the ring alone. Hopefully these two will fight again soon and the judgesÂ’ will be able to score a boxing match properly next time around."
I was actually talking about Haye vs Chisora, but never mind. Where did Haye and Adamek come from, by the way? Where are they currently ranked?
Having lived through the early 80s, I can tell you that it was every bit as bad, if not worse. At least today's heavies, for the most part, get in shape. Can't say that about fat slobs like Tony Tubbs, Greg Page, Tim Witherspoon, etc. Those guys were pathetic.
