Yeah, you can tell if they were real knowledgeable they would know that there's a long history of fifty year old boxing champs.

not saying he ain't using, but it was pretty well accepted that bhop was struggling to make 160 towards the end of his reign. he's nearly 6'2 and was already late 30's or early 40's. i think he had a strenght "guru" but realistically it wouldn't be that hard and he could've done it himself easily. any athlete that's near 6'2 and doing any type of weight training is going to be 175 EZ and would have to keep their body fat down to make the 175 limit

again he could be on something, but i don't see the tarver fight as any type of evidence of it

yes and yes and yes on the analysis of his skills and all that....but beg to differ on the PED issue....it is not about his in ring performance, it is the fact that PEDs would greatly aid a man his age in preparing for a fight, for being in shape to go 12, and perform at a world class level, against men young enough to be his sons, in their physical primes, while he is at an age where the absolute vast majority cannot hang anymore and decline rapidly even when they adjust their workrate, or try to be smarter, and use ring generalship, experience etc. I don`t know for sure if he uses, he may be an anomaly, he may be a genetic freak, a once in a generation type thing, and i totally hope so because he deserves a ton of praise....but to say no way on simply the possibility of him ever touching anything is just illogical and has nothing to do with PED knowledge or boxing knowledge...it is realism.

You could say that, but you'd also have to ignore that Hopkins is not for legitamate PED testing in boxing. He's repeatedly said he only will submit to commision testing and not anything beyond that.

Were Archie Moore's opponents on steroids? Does Hopkins fight in the Archie Moore era?

Totally irrelevant, but a nice side step.

yeah that does lead to suspicion. i was only saying that him fighting at 175 and looking fit (not jacked by any standards) doesn't mean anything

Sergio Martinez looks after himself too. I look forward to him beating top 5 contenders in the division in a decade's time.

I highly doubt it. He is one of the most disciplined fighters in the history of the sport. His career heaviest weight was his very first fight. He made middleweight all of those years by being dedicated enough to not gain but a few pounds in between fights.

Hopkins couldn't fight a full 12 rounds at 160 before the Taylor fights. He is 6'1 in height. As he got older, his body no longer took making 160 very well. Moving up to 175, was a more natural weight for him. He had a thyroid issue, that he refused to get treated before the Wright fight. He didn't get it taken care of until after the Calzaghe fight. Notice in the Calzaghe fight, he walked to the wrong corner a couple times, and he hadn't taken any type of punishment. Even Freddy Roach thought something was wrong with him, and called for his retirement afterward. If you notice, he gassed in both fights. Post Calzaghe, post thyroid treatment, he only has had issues with Dawson. Dawson is faster, taller, and has more reach. Old Hopkins' no longer has the athletic ability or speed to deal with a guy like Dawson. Old Hopkins has enough ability to feast on guys like Pavlik, Pascal, and Cloud though due to their bad footwork, and average skill levels.

The steroid accusations are pure hate. This was the softest Hopkins has looked ever. We have senior citizens running marathons, so a 48 year old, fighting a 12 round fight at, a measured pace against a plodding opponent, isn't something that is impossible. Hopkins has always shown a chin as well.

Do you understand how short lived the effects are for all PEDS? Do you understand how little evidence there is for banned drugs helping athletes with performance? Even in pure strength and endurance sports there is scarce evidence for the efficacy of banned substances helping performance, never mind a sport like boxing that doesn't require elite strength or endurance.
Hopkins is all about old school clean living, he's not a genetic freak and that's why I say that people who suspect him of PED use don't know **** about boxing. He is physically in very poor shape, he's slow, he has no power, he has no work rate. He wins fights simply by being smarter, more energy conserving with his movement and pot shotting when he has to. He's a defensive fighter who has been enhancing his skills for decades.
Where does he have a single physical advantage over any opponent? Seriously you people who suspect him of being on PEDs are dumb as ****, you don't know the first thing about PEDs and you don't know **** about boxing.
Seriously, **** off and follow another sport.
