The point? It sells. It may never sell like men's mma, but what other respective sport has done as well as it's male counterpart? It doesn't happen often. I haven't checked the numbers; but I'm willing to bet you'll have a hard time outside of tennis, gymnastics, or figure skating. So what? It still makes money. No sport would get anywhere if it's participants thought things like "This will never make as much money as the National Football League. What's the point?".
So what were the preceding fights that led up to this headline. Did anyone know anything about either fighters previous opponents, had they even brought in huge PPV's before, I dont know. One bloke said these women are parachuting themselves into an arena that had already established itself :think Im not against any female sports sports Rob. Theres no bias and like you im basically live and live on the subject but like all other womens sports other than Tennis theres just very little interest & Im not sure relying on a Male audience to keep that hype going will work. But hey as a businessmen Dana might aswell milk it for all its worth.. Ok cool the females did some good numbers on Strikeforce, problem is Strikeforce isnt here anymore..Yeh you make a good point about about sports not going anywhere if they are comparing themselves to the NFL but the whole point of the UFC is to "make money" hence all the PPV's...You guys realise that the UFC just dropped a huge amount of fighters part of that reason was because their style of fighting was not brining in $$$$ If womens MMA doesnt keep on brining in $$$$ then it will be dropped, it will still be around but in lesser orgs. Neither Hendo nor Machida are big PPV draws. That fight was huge in terms of serious fan interest, but not in terms of casual fan interest. :hat
I support equal opportunities, but women in combat sports should be chosen primarily for looks, wear skimpy Corona outfits and hold up cards during a fight to indicate what round it is
Because its interesting to some people. I don't usually watch women's sports. For example I love football, but I wouldn't watch women's football. However, I am interested in seeing who the best female fighter in MMA is.
