The minute Hopkins uttered the words ''I will never lose to a white boy'' he was never going to get a decision against Calzaghe.

It doesn't enhance his victory, but it showed Calzaghe was all wrong for him and came in with a great gameplan. Really good win for Joe

Yup that's how I saw it only I would summarize the same point a bit differently: Calzaghe may have won the boxing match but Hopkins won the fight.

Fighters know, and after that fight I think Calzaghe would have had that nagging sense of loss, regardless of the win.

Does it enhance Jermain Taylor's legacy? What about Chad Dawson?

Sorry, but it shows how thin Calzgahe's record is when I see threads like this pop up.

Bull**** , Boxing wins fights not words . When has anyone ever been punished on the score cards for something they said pre fight ? . Calzaghe beat Hopkins fair and square in America in front of 3 American judges , an American ref and an American crowd .

Yes Hopkins really shook up the world with that comment, as a white man living in the western world in the 21st Century I was flabbergasted and I still feel the same indignation today. I can only imagine how much anger the judges carried with them when scoring the fight that night :rofl

As for the thread title, the reason this thread comes up is because so many people want to try and discredit Calzaghe, that they make Hopkins was shot, or washed up when Joe beat him. This thread comes up, because when Hopkins produces these great performances (Pavlik, Pascal, Cloud) it shows them up, as we know Hopkins was still a great fighter when Joe beat him :deal

Jermain Taylor beat him at middle weight where he was struggling. Dawson beat him 4 and a half years after Calzaghe. Taylor was a very special fighter for a short time, so was Dawson but the move down may have ruined him. Calzaghe beat a lot of great fighters but because the hype machine isn't as big in Europe he doesn't get the credit.

You are both clearly Calzaghe fanboys.

I can't take anything you say on him seriously. :rofl

Ok guys, by the same logic does Kessler getting schooled by Ward take away from Calzaghe's legacy?

Most of the Calzaghe "fans" on here are actually just a few trolls, each with mulitple alts, who spam the general forum with their rubbish.

I wish people would just ignore them.

I suppose it might mean that Kessler win was a little less sensational than it appeared at the time, and the Hopkins win was even more of an achievement.

That said, he beat Kessler much more convincingly. Plus Kessler was beaten handily only by Ward, who most agree is a special talent.
