Chill story. I'm just saying that the statement earlier was inaccurate, which I believed it was. As for how Hopkins would do against those guys; fairly well speaking that that's a slew.of great lhws that cover almost 30 years. Drop Hopkins in any era and he'll do fine.

These aren't the types of responses he was looking for guys. Stop being honest.

Come on, Maxim's C Class compared to the top guys

Loughran doesn't have near the skill set of Hopkins and Conn isn't as big. Competitive fights but I think Hopkins even an old one should be favoured. Even an old Hopkins is quicker than Maxim and Loughran. A younger 160lb Hopkins likely has no problem with their size

Well, Hopkins is a very capable guy but lets ask another question, how would these guys do against HOPKINS opposition and I think the answer would be that most of these guys walk through the last few guys that B-Hop has fought...I am not sure about Rosenbloom,Mills and Lesnevich but Conn,Moore,Charles,Johnson,Loughran,Johnson and Maxim are a problem for Hopkins...I think Conn,Moore,Charles and Loughran could beat him convincingly but they all (listed Below)would beat B-Hops present competition

    Loughran
    Rosenbloom
    Conn
    Lesnevich
    Mills
    Maxim
    Charles
    Moore
    Johnson and so on,

Hopkins was a great LH? That's news to me :huh

Anyway, Charles, Moore, Johnson and Rosenbloom take him by a wide margin. Loughran struggles but takes him. He could beat Mills and Lesnevich.

I couldn't imagine Bernard Hopkins beating any top middleweight who threw punches. People are giving Hopkins way to much credit. He beat Cloud a overrated joke. Tarver took him lightly and lost. The reason he can box till he was 48 plus because he just holds and grabs.

Again Foreman fought till he was 48 and Moorer, Morrison, Briggs, Shutlz were all better than guys like Cloud.

He'd definitely get beaten by recent greats/near greats like Spinks, Qawi, Galindez, Conteh, Ahumada, Jones.

Even the next tier of guys like EMM, James Scott, Dariusz M would probably defeat him.

He is pretty good at the peak of his light heavyweight form though, and would hang with the second tier, even though in a nothing ventured nothing gained spoiler type of way..

A fight with a semi-motivated (aka peak) James Toney at light heavy would be interesting...

Surf, and SHAWN, he's NOT a great L-HW, that is the point of the thread, I think you've read it wrong.

All these people banging on about him, so this thread places him at what he is and where he should be, a L-HW, among the greats of the 30s - 50s and any others too.

I have a hardtime recognising anything outstanding in him except his excellent shape & commitment, but outside of that he is an oversized, overhyped, oversold, BIGGER than many of his opponents and put in his place for his 'actual' size and weight he's got little chance I say.

Bernard hopkins is today's wonder , because of the calibre of lightheavyweight fighters today. No more ,no less.Does anyone who is serious think that Hopkins would be fighting
the top LHs of the 1940s at age 48 ? He would be long retired I say. And the reason he has lasted so long is Hopkins has not fought that often as an Archie Moore, [218 bouts]
an Ezzard Charles [122], nor a Jimmy Bivins, Lloyd Marshall, Harold Johnson, Joey Maxim
etc, thus not expending much wear and tear in his career...Yes Hopkins is a marvel at his age, but the top LHs of today would not even be contenders of days gone past.
Would Hopkins at age 48, beat a Michael Spinks, Floyd Patterson, Mathew Sadd Franklin, Dwight Braxton, Michael Moorer ? No sir I believe....But I credit Hopkins with keeping in shape all these years for sure...

I thought Hopkins wouldn't have made the weight but Magna assured us that he would've been able to make 160 on the day.

Yes he'd take over the limit fights, but seeing as he handled 175 fine when well past his physical prime I see no reason he couldn't have at his best.

And yes he wouldn't have beaten everyone listed in this thread. Hence why all of them suffered losses from 160-175 as well.

Lo and behold Hopkins is the same as many other ATGs; not infallible. Wow.

EMM? Yes. Scott? Well if he boxed like he did against Qawi then Hop wouldn't be able to pressure him, 50-50. If Scott came at him Hop might well outmanoeuvre him, might not, 50-50.

    Dariusz? Nah, not IMO.

Yes the top 70s guys would all beat him IMO.
