This is on Loaded TV on Friday. This content is protected It's a battle of 2012 David Price early KO victims. McDermott lasted a minute, Skelton close to six. Big Bad John is looking to balance the scales in multiple ways: both to avenge a 2005 blowout loss to Skelton (knocked down thrice and out in the 1st) and render their records identical. The h2h victory would make both stand at 28-8. Several unbeaten Frank Maloney prospects dot the undercard. It should be fun while it lasts. It's scheduled for a very optimistic 10.
Can't see a KO1 like you predicted IB. But I'll eat my hat when McD somehow wins This content is protected
Price vs. McDermott: [yt]jjWMNRg16mA[/yt] Price vs. Skelton: [yt]Qxnst1TbzQ8[/yt] Needless to say, beyond duration, Skelton did better against Price.
Should be a fun tear-up even though there isn't really anywhere for the winner to go. (other than a fight with someone like Rogan, Skelton/Rogan II would be a war like their first fight) Skelton's punch resistance is gone, McDermott should KO him late after Skelton's mauling style gives him trouble in the early rounds. Big John is so inactive though, it's hard to guess how he will approach this fight.
Although it would be fun if Skelton tried to smash McDermott over the top rope, like he did with Tom Dallas. This content is protected
McDermott is 13 years Skelton's junior and is coming off a rebound tuneup against tomato can Pavels "Latvian Warrior" Dolgovs while Skelton is coming directly off the KO loss to Price, FWIW in terms of counteracting the sizable psychological edge Skelton has with having destroyed him and fared more respectably with Price. In every other way imaginable, the advantage lies with Skelton. He is fitter, stronger, more skilled, more powerful, more durable, and fresher - having lost in November, and putting in a total of four ring appearances since McDermott smashed up Dolgovs over a year ago.
Some boxing fans enjoy knockouts. :conf My only regret is that it should be the semifinal of an elimination tournament of Price's quick-work victims from last year, with the other being Harrison vs. Sexton as the co-feature. :yep Tourney king gets the rematch. :deal Then if they avenge themselves, a go with Tony Thompson.
You think last time was a fluke? :think Usually when someone is down 3x in the 1st, the other guy has their number...unless it's Pacquiao and Marquez. Also, why the hell isn't there any video of Skelton vs. McDermott I online? :huh
He's not more skilled and it's debatable whether the current version of him is more durable. McDermott also doesn't get enough credit for beating up the most roided-up boxer in history. :yep [yt]_Q9BAw4W_cs[/yt]
I dunno. Price hurt him to the body, like Pulev, but Skelton was taking the head shots quite well. Is there any indication that his jaw's been cracked?
I agree. McDoughnut is surprisingly tasty for a tubber. Decent compactful shots, good combination punching, decent timing, calm under pressure etc. Skelton's a mauler and a clubber, good at what he does, but far from skilled in a boxing sense.
John's a legend for that, but a) even a 40-something Skelton would've dealt the same with Larry and b) that is pretty much the high point of McDermott's career along with beating Gammer. After that, it's what? Pele Reid? Danny Peret? Tony freaking Booth? Those are literally his five best. Skelton has outdone all that in his forties alone, and had astronomically better results in his thirties.
