first of all Rees just got ****ing hammered out by Broner, so how exactly would you explain him getting another immediate title shot? second, where the **** has McCloskey come from all of a sudden, McCloskey has never even fought at lightweight, ever to my recollection this mexican WBO mandatory would be much better than both
Burns dominated him, the only robberies in Earls career were the ones where the opponent should have won (Vanzie, Romanov)
He's Puerto Rican I think, and his record is awful....Burns could get it out of the way I suppose and clear the decks
Which just shows how awful the McCloskey and Rees suggestions are...still trying to get my head around McCloskey, he can't even make lightweight!
Can see it being Rees, Eddie throwing Gavin to the dogs now he's got a better lightweight in his stable. I read on match rooms site that they're looking at another world title fight for Rees anyway.
Rees or McCloskey are awful fights, especially as one has never boxed at the weight. McCloskey could make LW...Each moob has got to weigh at least 3 pounds so I reckon he could make 135 easy, I just hope that he doesn't bother
There is absolutely no reason for this fight to be against a poor opponent. None at all. They have got plenty of time, enough dosh, etc. Will be a packed out arena in Scotland. Dont let us down Sweet Lord Eddie.
I'm not saying Rees deserves it neccessarily, just that he is the best opponent they could realistically get at such short notice. What makes you say the mandatory would be better? He's never fought outside Puerto Rico and his best win looks to be Joseph Laryea (who was on a 3 fight losing streak coming into the bout). Rees would make for a far more competitive fight.
because at least he's an unbeaten mandatory and not someone who got a hammering in their last fight, it would make Burns look like a joke fighting Broners leftovers and hyping it up as "world championship boxing" I'm not saying the puerto rican would be a good opponent, I'm just saying even he would make more sense than Rees or McCloskey, because at least you could explain that he's the mandatory challenger, how exactly would you explain Rees, coming off a devastating loss, or McCloskey, who's never fought at the weight, challenging Burns for his "world title"
9 weeks is not that short notice. Rees isnt actually a bad fight, Euro champion, former world champion etc apart from the fact he just got murdered by the bloke everyone says you are ducking in his last fight!!!!
