This to me seems like a very real possibility seeing how he can be so dominant at age 48, his mastery of boxing footwork, and general ring IQ is amazing. What do you guys think?
Adrien Broner and Canelo top him, his longevity is all good but he has lost before unlike Broner and Canelo.
Dominant and 48 and beating B level fighters does not make a guy great. He has a great body to keep it up so well, but he still lost to Taylor in 2005, Calzaghe in 2008 and Dawson in 2012. I don't see how that is the best fighter of the era. With that theory if Hopkins is 70 years old and he just wins a match against a guy who is a boxer he will be seen as the greatest ever? I don't see the greatest ever connection. Probably the best older fighter ever and Archie Moore.
No. IMO, Jones, Mayweather and Pacquiao are all still ahead. The longevity is impressive, and over time he'll get remembered for that, but his overall standing hasn't really changed since he beat Pascal, and there probably isn't much else he could accomplish at this point that would move him up ATG lists, other than if he moved up to 200 and beat one of the good titlists there, or moved up to heavyweight to fight Povetkin, or something crazy like that.
Tavoris Cloud is not B level fighter.Hopkins lost to Taylor and Calzaghe but it could go either way.He lost from Dawson but it was not great dominance of young fighter. He is 48 years olg and he is greatest fighter of this era.I don't like his style(I like swarmers, punchers, brawlers) but I must admitted that he is someone special. He was big underdog and won vs undefeated Trinidad,he was underdog and won undefeated Kelly Pavlik when Pavlik destroys his opponents,he won vs Tavoris Cloud,Jean Pascal,Roy Jones,Winky Wright after age 40.He was 10 years middleweight champion of the woorrld and had 20 defence, became light-heavyweight champion 3 time at age 41,46 and 48.I think that all is enough for Bernard Hopkins to be greatest fighter on today boxing.
I really hope the catch weights come back to haunt Pacquiao as well as picking up scraps means he isn't above Hopkins
It never fails to amaze me how often Toney nuthuggers try to slip him in alongside Jones when making a point, hoping nobody will notice :roflatsch.
