You see a bit weird like that Lance. Maybe you can tell us all again how you couldnt hack it in a boxing gym
    Great post
    :good
It would have been brutal, thats for sure. Prime Calzaghe would have had too many answers
You really are a sick individual :dead

Of course he gets credit. It's not a solid win or a good win or anything. But he beat a fighter and gets another W added to his resume. There's the credit.

Calzaghe wasnt nearly knocked out at all. did you see him having to hold on or doing the chicken dance? No you didnt, you saw him hit by a forearm.
Have you forgotten how a shot, bloated, brittle handed Calzaghe dominated Jones for 11 rounds?

If you remember correctly, Roy had now adapted his body back to 175 and was back on a good winning streak, dismantling Trinidad who had destroyed Mayorga and William Joppy as he cruised through the weight divisions.

The fight was only Calzaghe's 2nd at the weight and he travelled to america despite the likes of Hopkins, Lennox Lewis, Tarver, and Johnson all predicting that Jones would beat him. What made the performance even more amazing imo was that Calzaghe recovered from a brutal illegal forearm in the 1st round, only to get up and completely bamboozle Jones with superb lateral movement and delicious 4 and 5 piece combinations throughout.

What makes the win even better in my eyes is that after the fight, Roy then went on to produce a clinical exhibition V Jeff Lacy and then gave his own virtuoso masterclass versus Glen Johnson conqueror Omar Sheika proving that he still had plenty left in the tank.

Why is this even an argument? Even Calzaghe himself said Jones wasn't that good anymore.

Who cares people picked Roy to win? Myself was even clinging to a hope of him somehow pulling it off. But it was clearly evident in the fight, just as it was in every fight since losing to Tarver, that Roy was not the same anymore.

Calzaghe admitted this, and by his actions in the fight, he was well aware...

Did you see him dropping his hands? trying to showboat, but ended up looking like a ******ed caveman? He would have never had the balls to do that to a prime Jones, never, and had he, he would have been knocked cold.

Anyone denying the fact that Jones was shot to bits, must suffer oxygen deprivation from choking on Calzaghe's nutsack.

When did i say it was a great win?? It was a good win seeing as Calzaghe wasnt at his peak anymore and plus Jones went on to school Lacy and Sheika, he must have had something left.

As for what you quote calzaghe saying this fight was about money and you know that.

What i love about Calzaghe was how he took that illegal forearm and what did he do :

Did he cry foul and try and get the fight called off like crybaby Hopkins would have done?

Did he fold like a lawn chair like steroid riddled Jones would have done?

No Joe did what he always did, got up, fought fire with fire and produced his best like he always did in the face of adversity. When a fighter's back is against the wall, that is when you see the true mark of the man. Fighters like Jones turn to steroids or get stretchered out of the ring with their glass jaw smashed into a thousand pieces, fighters like Hopkins cry like a ***** and try and get the fight postponed and fighters like Joe Calzaghe come roaring back like a true champion.

    Quick way to answer this

Go back on here to Oct 2008 and see what the general consensus was back then, you'll find it's the same as it is now. Roy was 10 years removed from his absolute best, and 4 years removed from his 3 straight defeats by which time, he was shot.

It was a **** fight. Calz could have been the one to take Pavliks zero, or even Dawsons, instead he gave up 50% (haha RJJ must have thought that he'd won the lottery) to fight a shot to **** Roy in a meaningless fight

To the people that say Jones was on a winning streak, did you guys actually watch the three fights? I actually did watch them, and would love to hear your opinion on them, I thought Jones looked **** in all three fights compared to prime Jones, and not a singe one of those opponents were elite, and Jones struggled big time with Anthony Hanshaw, that was in no way impressive for Roy...

And as for the people who say he beat Sheika and Lacy... Well luckily for Roy, Sheika and Lacy were also way past their best, but were never too good to begin with... I think those two fights would have had similar outcomes had they all been prime, they were also in no way elite wins.

Lets not also forget that after Jones dismantled Sheika and Lacy he was knocked out by the Great Danny Green in one round.

The win streaks before and after fighting Calzaghe were smoke and mirrors provided by matching Roy Jones with A. Nobody fighters or B. Shot fighters or C.Both A and B.

Lets not forget that Roy also had lots trouble with Hanshaw, and trouble early with shot to ****, blown up WW Trinidad.. You can't tell me that prime Roy would have lost a round to either Trinidad or Hanshaw. As a matter of fact, I think he easily knocks both out. You don't think Calzaghe didn't know this? Of course he did.

Great post Guru. I wonder if Jones picked Sheika and Lacy to come back against while the scent of Calzaghe's fists was still relatively fresh on his face. Subconsciously that must have been traumtic - especially for Lacy. Clever thinking by Jones :deal
