Ignore dino mate, he's practically been outed as a troll now in on another thread in the classic forum. According to dino, Joe at age 36 after all the injuries he'd suffered was at his peak I'd say the knockdown in the first round just showed how much Joe was slipping, good on him to retire and stay away from the game, too many get tempted to fight on way past their best, Joe knew he was slipping fast and called it a day
Ha! See post 6 on this thread. Anybody can google -Jones vs Calzaghe fight predictions. You deliberately haven't mentioned the 7 or 8 guys who thought JOE would win. I've listed the names on post 6, and their full opinions can be looked up. You also have NO argument for crediting Joe with the win, when Joe HIMSELF dismissed Roy as a threat on TWO occasions.
I still don't see why Jones vicotry predictions matter anyway.. Did you see any of those predicting a Jones win call him prime? So what if people predicted past it Jones to pull out a win against Calzaghe, that doesn't mean Jones was relevant as much as it shows how they probably didn't think that highly of Calzaghe.. 3 of them had bad blood with Joe anyway, not crazy they picked Jones to win. Truth is, had Roy been in his prime form, not one sane soul on planet earth would have predicted Roy lose, including Joe, his mother and Pappa. He made statements and his actions as well spoke too loudly for me to ignore this fact. To me it speaks of Roy's greatness that other fighters can see him fall that far, and still think he has a good chance against a near prime still elite Calzaghe.
Fair enough mate, you didn't say it was a great win. But you mentioned Roy's fanboys making up excuses saying he was shot, and I was just pointing out that Joe himself had said Roy was shot. Lacy and Sheika weren't elite level fighters in 2009, if ever. After he'd lost to Joe, he had a little left in the tank, but not enough to fight at elite level. He hadn't won at elite level for 5 years going into the fight with Joe. I just don't understand how Joe could get any credit after what he'd said. But the biggest shock is, people seem to be just forgetting the fact that Roy got destroyed by Johnson 4 YEARS EARLIER! It's ****ing bizarre! He didn't just catch him, he dominated him for 9 rounds before knocking him cold. Roy was 35. Against Joe, he was nearly 40. You know that Johnson doesn't get much credit for that win. So if Johnson doesn't get credit for destroying Roy at 35, why the hell should Joe get any for beating him on points 4 YEARS later? It's utter madness! Just 12 months after Joe beat him, Danny Green knocked him out in under 3 mins, with a slow right hand he never saw. People on here need a reality check!
And to Calzaghe's hand problems.. Anyone that actually followed Roy's career knows he had hand problems as well.. Except he was an elite puncher, and changed his style as he got older to more of a pot shot type style to preserve his hands, but would still deliver one shot knockouts if the chance was there... He made statements about this that I can't dig up, but remember as a close follower.. Know also that prime Jones beat Hopkins and Toney with hand issues.. His hand was actually flat out broken in the Hopkins fight, and he beat Toney without training on the heavy bag because of a broken hand. The first right he threw on Toney was his first hard punch with that hand in months. Beating those two with hand issues at that time speak much louder than Calzaghe beating shot Jones with "brittle hands"
If you want the flies (aka trolls) gone then stop responding to them. They're not gonna troll a forum where they just get ignored
I hear you mate, but it gives your mind a workout, it passes the time, and it's fun making them look idiots by using facts and logic. Trolls are attention seekers that love to bait people, but at the end of each day they get shut down and owned. I'd rather have a proper debate and learn something, rather than getting abused and made to look stupid all of the time. It's all good fun.
lets be honest people were hoping that jones would be able to bring back some of the old magic but he was so so shot by this point. You show me one person who thinks that a prime calzaghe can beat a prime Jones and ill show them the way to a mental institution.
