Billy Conn versus Joe Calzaghe

Well, alright.....I´m saying I scored it for Hopkins, plenty of people on this board saw it the same way btw.

 

How did you possible score that for Hopkins? He did nothing. He'd land one punch on occasion while he was getting completely outworked. Doesnt even make sense to think hopkins won

 

no body beats Calzage at 168, Ward is the toughest match but at 175lbs Calzage IMO would not be strong enough for Conn, still a tricky fight that goes the distance but Billy may be too strong Conn UD

 

I personally didn't see it very close. In any event, he won a split decision, which indicates a close-fought victory. But, let me ask you this: did you have Calzaghe's other fights closer than most judges out there? And have you had other Hopkins' fights wider in favor of Hopkins? Juding is subjective so it would be consistent if you just happened to like certain styles more than others etc.

 

No one won that fight, it was a farce. But Hopkins won more rounds on clean effective punching for me and many.

Calzaghe certainly had the pace and volume but his effectiveness wasn't too great against Hopkins was it?

1 point I'd like to bring up in Louis' defence when he was fighting Conn is that it was Joes's 7th fight in 7 months and I just wonder if he may have been starting to run out of steam, as the early stoppages did come towards the earlier stage of the bum of the month. I know Louis wasn't exactly fighting bums, but most weren't better than fringe contenders, which leaves me to believe Joe may not have been at his sharpest for Conn and it certainly wasn't a 'prime' Louis that night as someone suggested earlier in the thread.

Calzaghe's easily got the stamina to go the full 15 throwing close to 100 punches each round, has very quick hands and feet, and does pack a fair bit of power in punches. Also note Calzaghe, despite being a few inches shorter, still has the reach advantage on Conn, Joe doesn't tend to use his reach to the best of his advantages for the most part, but his mid range punches will find home more often than not. Conn may be able to outmanoeuvre Joe, but not to the extent he did to Louis, and winning a decision is always going to be a tough task with the volume of punches Joe is going to throw.

I'll give a slight edge to Conn here, but it could go either way. Calzaghe would give a very good showing of himself in this fight.

 

Louis said he dehydrated himself to come in under 200lbs, and he felt like **** on the night.

Yea I do , I think Roy WAS GREAT BUT PICKED HIS SPOTS and I personally think Darius and others would have beaten him because of styles
