That's gotta sting for those few die hard Burns nuthuggers.

 

People assume that all belt holders are superstars with entourages nowadays Jeff,but Ricky's relationship with Alex Morrison is very much from the old school,right down to it still being the manager being the boss.
But I think events of the last six months have shook Ricky badly,and I know the criticism of his courage has hurt him.
But short of going out on his own SRL style,there's no way he could've made this fight.Saying no in Feb was a very sound business move that is only viewed negatively by people who think boxing and life outside it is like Fight Night Champion.

 

Why are we still talking about this fight?

 

Shame Broner skipped 2 weight divisions to duck Burns.

 

Not really Slyk.Most Burns fans think it's too big an ask if they're honest.
Still want the fight though.

The only thing that "pretty much puts the ducking thing to bed" is to fight the fight FFS atsch

Who cares what Hearn says, whats he gonna say ?

"The guy I signed is ducking"


So Burns left his promoter due to no big fights-

to go to another promoter with no big fights in the distant future

the man makes his own decisions

Not every fighter controls every move in his career.See my earlier post about Ricky and his manager.

It's pretty clear that outwith the ridiculous Feb offer,the only way Ricky could've got this fight before now would've been to leave FWP(at great legal risk) to beg GBP to take him,knowing full well that if Broner beats him,he would be discarded rapidly.
As I've said before,let GBP make the offer for a fight in the fall,then there can be no excuses.

 

Hearn is a good promoter. A good promoter is supposed to absorb all the blame for his fighter. Ricky doesn't want to fight Broner. He had his chance when they were at 130, and he had another chance when Frank was promoting him. Both times he chose otherwise. So this guy turned down two opportunities to fight Broner, left his promoter who wanted to match him against Broner, and went to a promoter who had previously stated that Broner would whip his ass and whom of course has no desire to match Burns against Broner. Props to Hearn though, Burns' fans will believe whole heartedly that their guy really wants to fight Broner.

Broner has the chance to fight Burns in the fall.
But it would appear he's choosing not to.

 

Also worth noting is that when the Feb offer was made,Burns asked them to put it back and he'd take it for a slightly higher offer.

Broner said no.

 

Promoter inspired or not its still a massive duck. Does Riddick Bowe get a pass for ducking Lewis because it was inspired by Rock Newman? No.

If Burns wanted the fight bad enough, he could get it.

 

How?:think

Leave his manager?
Self-promote?

Those aren't options for every boxer out there.
There are better boxers than Burns who can't get the fights they want.
Amir Khan made unsuitable offers to JMM and Morales.They said no because the offers were completely unfeasable.
Does that mean they were ducking the legend of Khan?

Strange that no one picks up on my post about Burns asking for a later date.

He was available free on the market as a hot commodity.

He could have easily said to one of his suitors: Look, I want you to set me up a Broner match up

 

Yes, Broner should wait around and hope that a guy who's turned him down multiple times will decide to fight him even though the guys promoter says he's not ready. That makes all the sense in the world.
