I don't believe Ali will do enough to garner a decision. If he dances around like Holmes was trying to do I think it hurts him. Ali won't stand his ground like a Holyfield or Douglas. Bad example since a prime Tyson wasn't in those scraps. Ali is certainly capable of this but Tyson would make him pay.
Frazier just walked up to his opponents, Tyson had specific techniques to close the distance and his footwork was much better than Frazier's who had none.
Ali's chin is good, but not good enough to take shots from Mike Tyson. If Mike gets a clean combination on Ali's horrendous defense (barring the defense good footwork brings), then the fight is over, period. Also, Tyson's chin is better than Ali's. Your chin is also dependant on your neck and Tyson's neck was monstrous.
I see no reason to assume Tyson can't win a decision. If Ali can't time him, he sure as hell is vulnerable to losing a decision. And Frazier was a lot easier to hit than Tyson.
It probably has to do with the fact that most of Frazier's opponents were cruisers and blown up light heavies.
That's not always true. Look at Tommy Morrison's neck ... it was huge and he had an average chin. Holmes didn't have a massive neck either and he was never KOed, except by Tyson. Oliver McCall, who had the best chin probably ever, had a large neck, but it wasn't anything huge like Tyson's. Ali had an excellent chin and this cannot be denied ... it was just as good as Tyson's. Also it's going to take more than one combination from Tyson to actually KO Ali ... Ali was never legitimately KOed. It's going to be a monumental task even for Tyson.
Ali, too much chin, too much speed of hands, way too fast on his feet. And he would have gotten into Tyson`s fragile head the moment they signed the contract... Tyson had many guys beaten before they even entered the ring, not so with Ali... H`e have Tyson all fired up before the bell. Once it starts, Ali glides both ways, snapping his jab repeatdedly into Tyson`s face. Mixing in some Ali shuffle, punishing right leads. He dismantles Tyson. Who, if he lands, finds his fist on one of THE best chins in the history of the sport...He isn`t knocking out Ali, and he could never outpoint him either...You have to think of what `67` Ali looked like, He was cocky, confident and looked to dominate not survive...
He would absolutely get into Tyson`s head. Do you think that Ali would be intimidated by Tyson ??? Ali was great at getting into everone`s head. And, I feel that tyson, while being a great fighter, was weak mentallly. And Ali would exploit it...Movesr are one thing, but you act like Ali would try to survive Tyson. Ali of `67` would take it to Tyson using his superior speed, jabe and footwork. ****, if `Quick` Tillis gives him problems, how do you expect him to deal with a superior Ali ?
Tyson was in his prime for Tucker. I honesty thought that Tucker gave him a decent fight for 4-5 rounds with his movement and jab. And he did well to smother Tyson's attacks down the stretch. Ali is a few leagues above Tucker. Make no mistake about it, Ali would hold onto Tyson when he got inside. Ali had the perfect style to keep Tyson off balance for the vast majority of the time. He's also got the ability on the outside to outbox Tyson.
13 of Fraziers 29 fights came against guys who weighed over 200 pounds. Conversely 32 of Tysons 37 opponents weighed over 200 pounds. On the other hand Frazier outweighed only 18 of 29. Tyson outweighed 22 of 37 opponents, and had 3 fights even, so they actually had similar size ratio to their opponents.
Yes. This would frustrate Tyson as the rounds wore on. Tyson was very fast especially for his build {stocky} but Ali was still faster. Quicker hands and feet. Ali wouldnt try to load up one or two big shots but he would consistantly hit Tyson with his pesky jab and quick rightcrosses then tie him up. Ali woudnt hook with him. Mike Tyson did have a good chin. He took one or two big shots about as well as anyone. How would his mind hold up when Ali starts to pepper him? Would his workrate rate diminish to 1 or 2 big shots then allow Ali to smother him while he rests inside himself? Thats the most likley scenario IMO.
If true ring `wizards` like Tillis, Smith, Green and Tucker could trouble Tyson. What do you think a vintage Ali would do with him ??? Ali would be sky high for the fight, and trust would come out looking to send Tyson a message on who is THE greatest of all times !!!
