Wha difference does a title make? Its the opposition that is faced and Calzaghe and Ottke have (that I can think of) 6 common opponents, 3 Ottke faced first and 3 Calzaghe faced first and Calzaghe looked the better overall against all of them and had the win over Eubank
Klitschko, Tyson, Holyfield, Golota vs. Hopkins, Jones jr, Kessler, Lacy with a couple of the fighters on those list not quite prime at the time when Calzaghe/Lewis fought them. Looks more or less even to me when you take into account that Lennox was ko'ed twice along the way.
Lewis: Top wins: Vitali (prime) Holyfield II(past prime) Holyfield I*(I'm classing this as a win) Lesser wins: Mercer, Tua, Golota Calzaghe: Top wins: Hopkins (past prime) Kessler (prime) Lesser wins: Lacy, Jones(shot), Eubank When you include accomplishments it tips in Lewis's favour
Calzaghe 115-112 or 114-113, there is no foundation to say Bhop won. You can only argue on how closely Calzaghe won it by. Bhop fought well but his dirty tactics and faking low blows was a blow to all the Americans who saw him as their hero/idol. Also he broke his promise about losing to a white boy
You never stop going on about titles when defending Joe's opponents. Former world champ this , future world champ that.
Calzaghe deserved a close yet clear win in my opinion. It was a close fight but I thought Calzaghe did enough to edge it. Hopkins bull**** tactics toward the end were a bit of a let down, but at least thenright man won.
When Calzaghe landed his "punches", they were weak that BHop was still making eye contact:- This content is protected When BHop landed his punches, they were strong flush shots that Calzaghe's face was showing pain, his eyesight became altered and sweat was flying off his skull:- This content is protected Here is a Bernard Hopkins hook, Calzaghe face seems he felt the punch, sweat is flying off his forehead and his eyesight has been altered:- This content is protected Compared to a Calzaghe "hook", BHop still staring at Calzaghe even got his mouth open, while being slapped:- This content is protected Here you see both landing a power punch simultaneously, with Calzaghe "punch" looking weaker to Hopkins punch. This content is protected ------------------------- Some folks likes clean effective flush shots, while others like high workrate containing barrages of slaps.
Even if all that were the case Hopkins didnt find a way to do it enough due to Calzaghes ability to adapt and have Hopkins looking weak at the end, though as we know you are just looking to focus on the bits you choose. What was your scorecard by the way? Probably 114/113 to tie in with the decision that went to Hopkins? What was your round by round scorecard?
But you have to include losses as well :nono especially KO losses to journeymen. And that's what tips the scale back to dead even or thereabouts.
Quality of opposition: Lewis Consistency: Calzaghe (Lewis lost to McCall and Rahman) Accomplishments: Lewis Reaction to adversity: Equal Overall: Lewis
