Why is boxing not a popular sport to watch?

Too many entities (ie: promoters, sanctioning bodies, mangers, networks, etc) involved in decision making process with regards to the system of boxing ruins objectivity.

The end results are that the best and more appropriate fights that can be made are few and far in between, overall cards are lackluster, established champions are hard to come by, the ranking systems are under-minded, and an overall lack of proper promotion to bring awareness to the sport.

 

Over the last few months, I realized that it's more than the networks, promoters, etc.

It's the schedule. Sometimes Boxing can go for months without a big fight and people just forget about it. The last interesting fight I remember was in January. It's March and we're finally getting an interesting night of boxing...and it's not a fight the casuals would care about.

The only way boxing can be popular is when good fighters are constantly matched up against each other and not let it fall off.

Society has gotten softer and more effeminate. Look at how UFC hit a wall. Mainstream western society is pussified.


Look at how much softer NFL and NBA have gotten its no coincidence.

 

Pretty much only fans I meet

 

hang out with russians. they love boxing and all kind of combat sports. it's a cultural thing

 

Boxing is still a popular sport to watch. I believe that.

 

In the UK it's not accessable enough. Ignoring the premium prices you have to stay up till 5am to watch the biggest fights.

 

Organized crime historically, currently PPV cutting off any new viewers and therefore curtailing interest and media coverage.

 

Why isnt boxing a popular (mainstream) sport?

-Because fighters die on the regular
-The sport is crooked as ****
-Most people look up to athletes like they are role models, boxers are far from it (and neither is any other athlete to be honest, boxing just makes it obvious)
-Guys get laid out on stretchers and are never the same again
-It is a brutal, unforgiving game. Most people just cannot handle that

Just face it, boxing is not mainstream.

 

The sport is only marketed to boxing fans. There is no atempt to broaden the sport's reach.
