No revisionism here. I, in fact, picked Shane to win (by KO2). Shane was a beast, and I give Floyd tremendous credit for that victory in particular. That said, no way Shane was the 3rd best boxer at that time. 10 years earlier? Yes. But by 2010, while he reclaimed the #1 spot as a welter, he did not reclaim his P4P aura.
Not sure, he had some very good wins but beaten soundly by Tszyu, I dont know though, id imagine he was top 10 pre Baldomir buts thats a guess.
He might have been a top 10 p4p, but he not a top 10 MW. In fact he had almost no resume at the weight, save for a gift decision over the journeyman, Sturm. The Trinidad win had some merit (I picked Bernard, pre fight), but any of Bernard's three W's over Allen were probably better than the win over Oscar.
Bottom line Shane looked shot by the time Floyd faced him. He was a year 1/2 off his margarito win. 1.5 years is a long time, and shane was already old. Floyd should have fought him in 09 instead he dragged up Marquez .

If Mayweather is 38, still ranked as one of the best in the world, and Broner beats him, it will be a good win for Broner. Fact of the matter is, everyone was saying Mosley was a threat to Mayweather leading up to that fight. Mayweather was supposedly scared to death of Mosley up until the day Mayweather signed the contract. You can argue that Shane was past his best, but it's hard to argue that Mosley wasn't viewed as one of the biggest challenges out there for Mayweather leading up to that fight. Just look at Martinez. Martinez is 38, and people are criticizing Mayweather because a fight hasn't been made between the two at 154. I'm pretty sure you can see how the perception of that fight would change later on if Mayweather scored a decisive victory over Martinez at 154.
