calzaghe v roy jones jnr-kelleman biased commentry

Wrong, if punching technique is anything to go by then Freddie Flintoff is exactly like Joe Calzaghe.

 

Watching the hand speed standoff and showboating was probably the cringeist thing I've ever seen in boxing. It was pure cringe.

For some it would have been a clash of two atg , for me it was a top class all time great who was old and finished against a meh fighter who begrudgingly has to be accepted as one of the best UK fighters ever.

That said it was awful. From start to finish. With the exception of the knockdown.

 

Calzaghe had technique superior to perfect textbook technique, we will both be long dead before a better fighter comes along.

 

What was pure cringe? Joe doing that Roiders or Roiders doing that most of his career????

That's not the reality though.

 

Calzaghe was a very good fighter with great potential, but falls short of true greatness for several reasons stated by Brits already in this thread.

Kellerman & co are garbage, as was that fight to a lesser extent.

 

In a sport where the object is to win by not getting the **** smashed out of you whilst inflicting damage on your opponent then you can babble on about technique as much as you like - it's how effective you are that counts. And a fighter who changes style to become a volume puncher because of dodgy hands and gets the success Calzaghe had gets top marks on that count.

As for the Jones Jr fight, I've no sympathy for a steroid using dog and cockfighting enthusiast getting treated with the disdain he used to treat others with. It just did nothing for Calzaghe though. It would have garnered him less cash but finishing off against Dawson or Pavlik would've seen him retire with more respect.

Jones is Kellerman's all time idol so he wasn't exactly impartial there.

 

To be fair, Kellerman was the only one on the team who called the knockdown as a forearm, and also brought it up again later. Manny Steward was actually still justifying it as a punch while the replay shows him blatantly getting smashed with a forearm!
