Ruslan's headhunting cost him the fight IMO. If he learns to go to the body first and then the head on the inside, like Tyson used to do, he will be champion at 140. Whether he can beat Lucas or Rios is another matter.
he was just too inactive between 3-10 he stalked around a lot bust struggled to cut off the ring i agree that he did not go to the body enough, in 11 when he turned back the tide he did get to the body
the heart, the toughness the strength is there. I wish this kid had one of those old school trainers like the kind that polished Marciano, or an Eddie Futch, yes I know Roach was trained by eddie, but. This kid needs to learn to bob and weave, crouch down like Marciano watch Marciano in the old films at time he crouches down as he approaches making it hard for his opponnet to get any leverage on their shots. He needs to learn how to place those hard shots to the body when an opponent is hurt. How to shorten up and calmly take a guy out who is in trouble. I think a lack of experience played a major part in the loss but this kid could be a monster. Head movement, the bob and weave constantly, combo punching and a body attack, the hook to the liver ala Chavez..... This kid can be a swarmer and a nightmare for Jr welters and welters.
Yeah he gassed out in 1-2 and got his 2nd wind in the 6th. I think he would be perfect for Cus D'Amato's style. Perfect post. :good
Nah, ALL he needed was a JAB. He closed the distance Cotto-style against Trout, with his face. Imagine a leading jab, backing Bradley away into defensive mode and then landing the combinations. That's the adjustment he needed and I never heard a suggestion about it in his corner.
Body shots were conspicuously void in Ruslan's attack. He'd be well advised to add this dimension to his game.
He's 29 years old. He should have learned that already! Maybe he will learn some defense by the time he's 35. Then, by the time he's 40, maybe he will learn how to deal with movement. Bottom line, he's pretty limited.
If Tyson hadn't met Cus D'Amato early on in his life, he would probably have been a decent HW contender and nowhere near the legend that he was. A trainer can make or break a champion. Roach is great with certain fighters but with fighters like Ruslan, Atlas or Rooney would be a better fit.
i dont think he threw a straight right all night , ?? he could get even more dangerous adding straight right , left hook combo off , liked what i saw from him
He threw ONE body shot in the entire fight, in the 11th iirc, and hurt Timmeh big time with it, and didn't throw any jabs. Ruslan is a very limited fighter, and still had P4Per Bradley on ***** street for half of the fight. Seriously wasted potential here
He's made great strides in his technique in the last year or two. He'll never earn the nickname Sugar, but he's come a long way. I remember some of his early fights on FNF and the dude was just a goddamn caveman.
he needed bodyshots but he also needed an uppercut, reminded me of Taylor when he hurt Pavlik he needed a uppercut too, an uppercut is a hard punch to land but when your opponents hurt you can land it and it can be powerful even when your up close, thing is the adrenaline got to him Bradley was out of it and they guy was throwing combos, he shoulda took his time and threw the same shots that hurt Bradley in the first place
Yeah more bodywork would help but his biggest flaw is his poor stamina, he needs to work on his cardio, he literally took two rounds off after nearly stopping his opponent and he didn't even throw that many punches before that.
He does usually work the body pretty consistantly and it would have been a huge help last night rather then exclusively headhunting when he got Tim hurt. His defense and headmovement is also capable but he seemed to just abandon it because he didnt give a **** at times. If he jabbed his way in, worked the body and consistantly used his defense which are all things he already has he would have been alot more effective. Improve his stamina a little and make sure to keep his volume consistant for each round and he'll be very formitable. Provodnikov vs Maidana make it happen.
