Took the words right out of my mouth!...first thing I thought of when I saw this thread was Leonard Vs Hearns...Quit a display!..when weve ALL seen what Tommy did to Roberto's chin
This makes a lot of sense. The only thing I think alters this is that I feel the 154 lbs version of Hitman, cracked a little harder than the 145 lbs of Hearns cranking SRL . Hearns, that night against Duran, his power was immense !
Duran but both were strong. Leonard was knocked down 6 or 7 times in 40 fights or less. Duran was put down a couple of times in his prime and then the Hearns fights that I know of. He had over 100 fight many well above his best weight.
in the first fight Tommy did not hit Leonard. sorry had to correct this, wrote Duran-- with a really clean right hand in the whole fight. He got close but either hit him short or at the end of the punch. Ray knew that if the jab hit him or came, to duck and move away from the right. He was very aware of that. In the rematch Tommy hit him and knocked him down, yet at that point Hearns and Leonard both were losing a little speed. Duran took full leveraged punches from Hearns and still stood up and even came out in round 2 trying to fight back with Hearns. I don't have a doubt that Duran's chin was better than Leonard.
Fought a top ten ranked guy in his debut! And took a phenomenal shellacking past his best and blind in one eye from undefeated welterweight Hearns.
If he had some skill to go along with his chin, punch and stamina he could've been something. At least he looked better against Hearns than Duran, and given his condition it was a very game effort.
He was something. Even with all the titlists around today he's still the record holder for quickest major strap. And legendary Muay Thai champ'. He did okay.
Duram was put on the deck by DeJesus in their first two fights I believe. Quick knockdowns, and wasn`t in danger of being stopped. After that he was preety damn sturdy until Hearns tried to decapitate him...SRL after he came back, his chin seemed less sturdy...
Yeah they weren't much more than flash knockdowns. Duran got sstraight back up and kept going As they get older I don't think it's a bad thing that the chin can't take what it once used to take. Less chance of long term damage
I'm sure no one took that into account in their evaluation you massive mong. :yep In his first pro' boxing bout no less.
