Hendricks won pretty clearly but Condit didn't really lose. He put up an awesome show, was gaining the momentum at the end, and was half of a great fight. I'd like to see those two fight again over 5 rounds. With regards to the scoring, if you spend 30 seconds trying to isolate an arm, and it looks aggressive and you are trying to finish the fight but nothing ends up happening, how much worth does that really have? "Looking for submissions" carries a wide range of actions. How is trying to throw your legs up a couple of times to no effect, or failing to isolate an arm, worth more than moving the fight from one area to another against your opponent's will? If you nearly grab the sub, like Dan Miller had Jordan Mein's arm fully extended with Mein in big danger, sure that's definitely worth something. But I don't recall Hendricks ever looking seriously in danger of getting submitted, and Condit's undeniable aggression from the bottom doesn't really outweight Hendricks demonstrating that he could take Carlos down easier than Carlos could keep the fight standing. :conf :hat
Yeah mate. Hendricks looked more likely to win by KO than Condit did by sub. ****, at the start of round 1 Hendricks looked like he was going to add Condit to his 40 second club. :hat
if you have a guy defending the submission then the initiative is yours and you should be seen to be the aggressor. if you take a guy down so what? youve just taken him down. maybe he wants to go down? maybe he will try and wear you out off his back. if you slam a guy thats different but a takedown is **** all unless its the only thing that happens. the classic case is serra vs hughes. two rounds clearly decided and then in the third they get a takedown each and hughes does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING except fight off geniune submission attempts yet gets the decision because he "spent more time on top" i mean how is that fair?
Age old argument, this can go on for hours/days/months and people like you will not understand it mate! Ask any MMA fighter, or anybody who practices MMA, if they spend the majority of time on their back in a fight or a spar can you claim you won that fight? ..................................... :good
Serious submission attempts, sure. But if you're just throwing your legs up a couple of times, or failing to isolate an arm, then it's only worth so much. I mean a standard takedown means that you have successfully shifted the fight from one area to another. If your opponent tries to defend it and fails, then you have successfully imposed your will on him and taken him away from his fight plan. That's something. Trying and failing to put a guy in danger on the ground is less than that. :good To me, looking for a submission but failing to put the guy in actual danger with it is the same as throwing a nasty-looking vicious combination but missing all the strikes. :conf Haven't seen that fight for awhile but yeah, I agree that top control ain't the be all and end all. You gotta do something with it. However, like it or not, the man on top has the superior position, and IMO if the guy on bottom wants to win a points fight, he has to be effective with his sweeps and submission attempts - not simply active. :good :hat

Don't think so, though I watched the fight as it happened and didn't really try to keep a round to round score. I had Hendricks winning a decision, Condit putting on a great show with a fine performance, and I got the sense that Hendricks was wilting and would have found himself in big trouble in the 4th and 5th. :good :hat
hypothetically lets say nothing happens in a round except fighter A locks up a standing kimura while fighter B presses him up against the cage. who wins that round?
clear victory for Condit Hendricks will have as much as a chance against GSP as Nick which is none bar a lucky punch hopefully he decides to challenge Anderson or defends against Rory those are the only 2 that can give him a fight and maybe beat him
