How did you score Hopkins/Taylor 1?

taylor won both fights was rooting for hopkins in 2nd

 

Anyone out there find controversial decisions intriguing?

I've always liked watching Whitaker-Chavez, De La Hoya-Whitaker, Hopkins-Taylor I and II and Leonard-Hagler, etc.

Those judges scorecards were an abomination. Just as they were for MAB vs. JMM and DLH vs. Whitaker.

Must have been scoring effective headbutts and clean holding and hitting.

 

I'll say again, it wasn't in the slightest a controversial decision. And punch stats don't score fights. And they have been proven to be extremely unreliable as it's simply a guy at ringside pressing a button when he thinks a fighter lands a clean punch. Punch stats also don't measure the effective of a punch.

The naked eye judges fights.

I might score a fight 8 rounds to 4, then change it to a draw after the punch stats show the losing fighter slightly outlands the winner. Just to even things up a bit. :good

 

We'll, we'll just have to disagree. I think the fight was controversial.

I didn't see the clear win everyone else did.

In fact, I think people were crediting Hopkins with punches being caught on the gloves.

 

It wasn't controversial.........No matter how you see it. Everyone scored the fight for Hopkins mate, apart from you. The press, fans, etc, never stirred up anything to even say the fight could have gone either way.

Whitaker-Chavez, De La Hoya-Whitaker and Hagler-Leonard all stirred up controversey. These fights all carry controversey no matter who you score it for. Hopkins-Wright doesn't bring that to the table.

 

i had it 115-113 for hopkins in the first fight who got robbed of at least a draw (and his title) when one judge gave the 12th round to taylor and i had taylor winning 115-113 in the rematch. bhop got started too late in their second fight.

 

Hopkins lost them both.....115-113.

 

Didn't Harold Lederman have it a draw?

I was watching the UK feed, and they thought it could have gone either way too.

Haven't researched too much into the press scoring for the fight.

Would love to see more than 2 or 3 scorecards for it, to truly verify that ALL the press had it for Hopkins.

 

I can kind of see where SS is coming from.

I didn't watch it live...and when I got around to watching it I didn't bother scoring it.
But I thought after that 117-111 was taking the **** a bit...He really wasn't landing much and though Winky's work was no frills, it was often the only stuff of note for big chunks of the fight.

Hopkins called it "a very close fight"

Crappy fight IMO and I have no inclination to revisit it and actually post a score.

 

Taylor's speed won him that fight. Not with any tactic, just speed. and he won UD.

 

I had Hopkins beating Wright 116-112. It was a closeish fight through about 9 rounds, but Hopkins completely took over late. Wright was well beaten in the 12th, a round I remember noting that he absolutely needed to win to have any shot at a possible split nod or a draw.

I could see it being 7-5 for Hopkins easily. 6-6 if you give Wright the benefit of every doubt.

Winky did not win that fight. There are not 7 rounds for him in it.
