HBO and Golden Boy split

What happened to the networks motto,which came from HBO's Hirshman himself"Best fights and no rights".Bull**** response from a so called exec.

 

It's actually not THAT bad though.

GBP has the top 140 lbers, so now they have no choice but to match them up.

- WW is a dead division as it is really

- 122/126 is a bit ****ed now though depending on who fights at wht weight

- MW is pretty wide open as GBP doesn't have many besides Quillin. So MW will be on HBO mostly

 

A promoter having too much control over a network is terrible for boxing. Showtime will continue bowing to Golden Boy's every request while we get terrible matchups with the idiot Showtime commentators reading random tweets.

 

It has both its pros and cons. That dividing wall between TR and GBP fighters has been made thicker, but it's not something we haven't grown accustomed to over the past few years. At least now, the competition between the networks may intensify. I say 'may' only, because it could have the complete opposite effect. It could also allow TR and GBP to dictate to their networks what fights they want to put on - which means less competitive fights, and more cherrypicks with the networks having no choice but to go along with it. One promoter monopolising a TV network can be very very bad.

 

Their stable is garbage, why do you think we are getting Rios-Alvarado 2? cause they got no one else, If I'm GB I'm trying to get Robert Garcia's fighter and it's over for Bob.

and hopefully HBO starts putting Golo in with some top MWs.

Yeah I know what I was implying is that Mayweather's move came as the finishing blow.

 

This is where im concerned the most.

GB needs to get the likes of Mikey and Salido pronto.

 

GGG is a TV friendly fighter with some good potential matchups. Plus, he won't cost a lot for his next couple of fights. This makes sense.

 

Expect the following to recieve the full HBO power-marketing treatment:

- GGG
- Martinez
- Rios
- Ward
- Donaire

This is exactly what I fear will happen and why I'm not happy about the move. HBO understandably is not interested in Golden Boy holding so much leverage over them with fighters like Broner, but the potential of working with Golden Boy allowed HBO themselves to have leverage on other promoters as well. With this no longer being the case, it feels like the promoters now have more control over both networks.

One promoter controlling a TV network, as with Showtime and Golden Boy was bad enough, but having both US networks controlled by rival promoters is a much bleaker situation IMO.
