Yes one can. Never heard of recreational boxing?
Just like any other sport it's not obligatory to compete in competition.

Boxing takes effort to get into. With the shortage of boxing gyms these days one has to have the desire and then find a gym they can get to. If you're a kid, this means taking a bus to the boxing gym everyday

It's not readily available after school for you to "try" like every other sport

I trained in a Kenpo studio. I joined a studio, paid money each month and endured some pretty serious pain.

Much different than grabbing a few friends to kick a soccer ball around or play some hoops.

Ha! Thats some bit of fibbing there. Not even close to realistic.
Are they counting those who have thrown a football in the backyard?

I don't think most people can imagine getting punched in the face once, much less be in boxing match, I would expect this.

Completely non-related to the boxing issue, which is obvious and meaningless, that study can't possibly be even close to accurate:

"90% of basketball fans have played basketball before." Bull****. Maybe 90% CLAIM to have played it before, and by "played it" they mean they shot a few baskets in the High School gym once.

"95% of Football fans (soccer) have played football(soccer) before." Really? How many female fans did they ask?

    These numbers are absurd.

Ive heard thats what its like in the states these days, so many boxing gyms ( some very famous ones to) being closed down with the sports waning popularity over there. Luckily enough where im from there's no shortage of boxing gyms, even quite number of little villages seem to have one. Hope it stays that way to:deal

I can believe it, basketball/football was part of our Physical Education curriculum in secondary school, so everyone in school could claim to have played basketball before.
