It’s easy to invest in both – Hopkins ability to survive, to frustrate vs. Marciano’s ability to rise above.

The reason however why Hopkins would not be able to stick more than two blades in this bull is because Marciano possessed the ability to experiment while charging. Vague as the expression on his face often was, Marciano could and did blend together what was at once bold, daring and unsuspected – that was a wicked recipe, and it’s the same one which smashed the batteries out of Walcott.

The Executioners infuriating sucker-punch n’ grab routine would find an awfully disobedient pupil in Marciano. 15 rounds is a long time…far too long.

I haven't said anything in this thread thus far, but I'll say this... Anyone thinking that Marciano plows through a prime-ish B-Hop in one, two, or three rounds is way off the mark. I'm not saying that Hopkins wins, especially over 15, but he's not going to do worse than the "typical" Marciano opponent. His main problem in this fight is the perceived lack of power to hurt Marciano. That's mainly why I can't say he wins, but other than that he has a lot of tools in the toolbox. Hopkins was always in great shape, going 15 rounds should be no problem for prime Hopkins.

I wonder how Marciano would react to Hopkins using headbutts and elbows up close. :think I see the usual nutbag nonsense about broken blood vessels and all that but I think it's more likely that Hopkins cuts up Marciano's face with his head. You can say it's illegal but Marciano was no stranger to the rough stuff himself.

I think Hopkins would reduce Marciano's volume with his movement. He wouldn't stay in front Marciano as much as Walcott and Charles did. I've seen people here pick Tunney over Marciano and I don't think Tunney does anything better than Hopkins. Tunney is probably physically stronger in the clinch but that's about it.

Stylistically, I don't think a relatively slow-moving, hard-hitting pressure fighter beats Hopkins, not systematically. The problem is that Marciano may have physical advantages that compensate for that.

 

To anyone thinking that Marciano stops Hopkins quickly, if a bumsteak like this

yea and if Levi Billups , Big foot Martin and Crawford Grimsley can go the distance against Foreman so can B-Hop and if Levi Forte, Roberto Davala and Peralta can go the distance with Foreman so can B-Hop.....no way all 3 would smash B-Hop, body shots start it and Bernard may go down before the first head shot rips into his head ...in fact Ezzard Charles, the one that fought Marciano KO's B-Hop at his best and ol Archie as well, its just a matter of does B-Hop want to fight or survive..what a fantasy
