My coach has always told me keep the chin tucked all the time. even went as far as to make me keep a tennis ball under my chin when hitting the pads or heavybag. But while reading the forums someone said

What do you think of this logic??

Reason number one, and the only one that matters - keeping your chin up is a sure way to get sparked

There's a difference between dropping your chin and tucking your chin

I doubt Scrap's comment translates to "keep your chin up".
Tucking your chin, elbows and shoulders makes sense only to a certain extent.
Not a bad way to raise a fighter, but it does limit other aspects/styles of body and training

Every few months this comes up and we always conclude that scrap means keep your chin tucked.

Don't put your head down, tuck your chin in. They're two totally different things.

The way this was explained to me while learning drill was as follows:
"Pretend your back is flat against the wall and there's a dude in front of you ready to give you a **** meat sandwich and you don't want that so you pull your head back like 'nooooo.'" Basically.

When you tuck your chin it's retracted and stabilised, all your muscles around your neck are supporting it and your posture is fine to throw punches, raise your shoulders etc.
When you drop your chin your neck isn't supported, your posture is off and you can't defend properly, the torque when you get punched is greater and so on.

People don't understand, if you put your chin down you can't move properly and you're more likely to get knocked down. If you tuck or retract your chin you can still be looking straight forward but you're in a biomechanically much stronger position, you can attack and defend properly while also seeing properly.
Never drop your chin. A good example is Miguel Cotto, his leaning over stance with his chin down often caused him to be knocked down.

You don't ever see Mayweather with his chin down, you don't see Lomachenko with his chin down. You need it back/tucked in, not down.

Most things have been said, to add, Chin down more than 15%, theres a problem. Which is, it restricts the Diaphragm from working by 50% Starving the Eyes of there predominant Fuel source Oxygen, not to mention the rest that needs it.
