Of course Jimmy Young could have beaten Foreman..it's a matter of styles.

It depends on whether Foreman was actually drugged as he claims.

Of course he could. Different versions of the beast was the main point, however. You also can't understate the aura literally stripped off of Foreman by Ali in that fight. Ali goes into that fight looking like he's ready but nervous as hell because he knows what he has heard about this man. Tend to think the Ali win can not get overlooked and undervalued.

    Nobody else.

    Just Ali.

So much of the subsequent loss was psychological.

I favor Joe Louis for sure. Sonny Liston as well. Holmes would have a good chance. Maybe Lennox Lewis even $.

    Not too many
He was great at cutting off the ring and would bomb with every shot

I'm thinking a super durable with a good punch like McCall or Mercer could pull the trick. If Mercer pulled the same game plan like against Morrison I think he could do it.

Even George has admitted that was absolute bull****.

Tommy may have done a good job outboxing the 44 year old veteran version of George, but I can't see him even surviving the distance against the younger incarnation of the seventies.

Really? I thought the exact opposite.

He threw less jabs at Ali and he swung more wildly than he has done before. His accuracy was also off.

Mentally was also off, he must have thought that he could have Ko'd Ali in the first 3 rounds, and when he realized he couldn't he simply stuck to his window swinging gameplan

Agreed I thought he looked off from the get go.

His good footwork went to ****, his setting up punches went to **** as soon as Ali started nailing him with right hand leads and whispering in his ear I think any sort of gameplan he may have had went out the window adn he just tried to take him out.

All true but who else could have pulled that gameplan off and made George start to doubt himself.

For the record i can see Louis getting steamrolled early that night as would Marciano, unless either can land big and early.

Holmes as i said earlier may get drawn into a slugfest as he was known to do and that would be his undoing.

Liston may be a good shout as well as a fully focused Lewis but aside from those 2 i would be reluctant to favour anyone in the ring that night in Zaire.

I think Mercer especially an in shape Mercer would could pull the trick perhaps...when Mercer pressed the action it would force Foreman to throw bombs and tire him quicker. I thought there were quite a few instances in RITJ where Foreman was obviously getting frustrated if Ali nailed him and just attempted wild swings for the sake of it.

Although I agree Louis gets steamrolled, Marciano and Dempsey too. Don't know why people are so confident to pick Louis.

If Holmes fought the same game plan against Foreman as he did Cooney I think he'd take it. Playing it safe all the way to the bank.
