Ward Would Fight Mayweather at 160 but Wouldn't Fight Dawson At 175

It would've been a good fight IMO mate.
But the point is,Ward turned it down because at the time,he felt he deserved a "soft" homecoming fight,and I think it would've been only fair after the S6.
Bute hadn't been exposed yet,and had every right to demand parity at the time,which defeated the purpose of Ward's plan(for an earner with a huge majority share of the purse)

I know Ward's plans went tits up,but to suggest he actually "ducked" Bute because he feared him is ridiculous,even without hindsight.

 

I agree, Ward never really ducked Bute in terms of being fearful. But what did Ward do then? He didn't unify, he didn't give the fans what he said he would do, and he missed out on bread.

All serious factors which he should of just stepped up to the plate and banged. I would've respected him more then I do now. Legacy and Money... the two most important things in boxing!

On a serious note though good point, I would say their records are comparable at the moment, if Froch beats Kessler in the rematch, I'd rate him as the number 1 SMW due to Ward's inactivity.

I agree mate, to suggest a pro fighter is scared of anyone is ridiculous. It's about management though, and I think Ward's team may have seen Bute as too high risk at that time to make the fight, that's why they dismissed him, that was the fight to make at the time. But as said, Ward did beat the other top fighters in the division, so I can cut him some slack, I don't hold it much against him

One thing I will say though, Ward gets no credit whatsoever for Froch destroying Bute as I've seen written on here before, the credit there goes 100% to Carl Froch and his team

He was entitled to a softer fight.Bute's had plenty of those.

 

Yeah but they had to be in it to win it.

Ward was entitled to a money making "home" fight after beating Froch,just like Bute was entitled to a fight like Grachev after losing to Froch.
