Didn't take long before it turned into a who would win thread lol with the fab 4 > Floyd talk. IMO Floyd has more attributes than Pea. I don't think anyone in boxing has as much dimensions as Floyd. The guy is too damn good. He seem to be able to do it all and in a near flawless fashion. As Bradley put it, the guy is a Wizard in the ring and i couldn't say it better. The guy can fight in all range: outside, inside. He can beat you to the punch or counter. Several styles: boxer puncher, counter puncher, pot shot, conventional, phillyshell. Great technique: accurate puncher, every punch in the book (picture perfect) he can fight on the ropes, off the ropes, great defense, great offense, fights dirty if needed, smother, hold, good body to head attack, and great feints. Also he got great ring generalship. He slows aggressive fighters down and he adapts well. There are plenty of trainers who doesn't have a single clue on how to beat Floyd. The guy dealt with every style and he passed easily. People should think about why when talking about Floyd the only way can be put down is by guys who is naturally bigger than him? Guys who is his size or smaller stands absolutely no chance is how good he is.
I agree with most of your post... except for one glaring thing... Floyd had more attributes... Please pick one for each category and I want to see how you come to Floyd having more. Not only IMO does Pea have more attributes... he proved them against far superior fighters. That counts for a lot more. It' s like is it more impressive to score 45 points against Raiders or score 45 points against Seattle? That is essentially what we have here. It's unfortunate that a few Floyd trolls took over this this thread with their usual nonsense.. I mean really... We have one clown saying Floyd would be 50/50 against SRL LMAO ... that is a complete joke. Not only would FLoyd NEVER get in the ring with any of the Fab 4... He wouldn't be ANY of them. And I mean wouldn't beat... as in it was more competitive than it is close.
Far superior my ass. I am amaze to hear how people are so sure whose quality of opposition is superior when their opponents never fought each other or have any similar opponents. Kurupt, you don't want to see my list between those two. It would be lopsided in favor of Floyd. Just watch the footage of the two is not hard to see who is more versatile and who has more looks/dimensions. In simple words, who can do more, who evolves better. All point to Floyd.
Finally some sense here , it all matters against competition, and Floyd doesn't have the same level of competition as Whitiker !!! And what's even funnier is that I read that Floyd was stronger ? :think Imagine Whitiker fighting the likes of Marquez and out weighing him by a few lbs ..Im sure he would look as strong as Floyd did ..Whitiker wins this by a landslide !!
If you guys really want to take this route, then post in detail of your arguement. List the "far superior" guys. List all the big names.
Whitaker also has a complete, technically sound arsenal of punches. I'd say he was the superior combination puncher. Whitaker was also a master at both fighting on the inside and outside. The spots he spent on the inside against Chavez, even though Chavez was past his best, were more impressive than anything Floyd has ever done inside. Whitaker has as good if not superior defensive abilities. Floyd relies more on his guard, while Whitaker has superior head movement. Whitaker has notably superior ring generalship. More mobile, better at working angles, better at controlling a ring.
I give Whitaker the nod for combination punching. Defense? Floyd easily takes this. Whitaker's defense is majority upperbody movement, foot movement, and counters. A lot of his defense are flash and he gets tagged a lot of times during his showboats. Floyd only legit knockdown was against Judah and that is offbalanced due to judah punch was on top of floyd's head pushing him down. Pernall been kd and stopped. And people think Whitaker's defense is better? Give me a break.
Floyd's defense got everything from upperbody, footmovement, clinches, counters, conventional, philly, pot shot and far more dimensionals than Pea. Also the compubox had Floyd the least hit fighter. Even though i do not competely think compubox is accurate. Never been kd on his ass by a punch. How is this even close is beyond me. I want someone to pull up video examples of Pea's pull counters, counters over jabs on a dime, and check hooks compare to Floyd's. All part of defense. You got Pea who tries to make his opponents look bad (showboating making you miss) vs Floyd's all business hit you and not get hit and rips his opponents determination/heart right out sitting in a corner confused and broken knowing that they can't win. Thats the difference.
See, I don`t see PBF beating anyone in a `war` of attrition... I think thats the missing ingredient with him, intangibles. Does he have the heart and grit to overcome an opponent who has similar skills ? I think also that Sweet Pea was an incredibly slick south paw. Please don`t try to mention that PBF is `great` against southpaws. he never fought any southpaws at the level of Whitaker ...
skillswise , this is very close. I do think that PBF would be unpleasantly suprised at how hard to hit a prime Whitaker is. Intnagible`s I say definitely go to Whitaker. He was constantly stepping up in weight and taking on the best. he was not a cherry-picker. he was arrogant in his belief of himself and his ability and wanted to prove against the nest at their best (weight and prime)...Whitaker could stand center of the ring,no foot movement and make you miss. When he was light and moved his feet, you couldn`t touch him ...
And on personal experience. I have a pretty decent defense. I know I will more than likely avoid most punches just by duck and roll. That is Pea's type of defense. The key thing that people DO NOT REALIZE is that all that body movement looks flashy but it is not effective dealing punishment back to your opponent. Half of the time I roll and slip is hard to focus on my target. Floyd's defense PUNISHES your mistake. You miss, you pay. That itself is way harder than the you can't hit me mode that Floyd is capable of doing. Floyd never take his eyes off his opponents which is why he is one of the best counter punchers in the game today. I have never been able to do what Floyd is doing but i can have a lot more sucess doing pea's defense.
I fricken love watching Pernell. I remember an argument I had with Windigo when he said Pacquiao was a better counter puncher than Sweet Pea http://www.boxingforum24.com/showpost.php?p=10369191&postcount=128 I see counterpunching as capatalizing on your opponent's mistakes and opening they make when punching. Pernell was way better at that then Manny. It seems you just judge based off of power. The best counterpuncher to me is the guy that can counter every punch and do it over and over. Not the guy who can only counter a few punches every now and then, but knocks the guy out with the counter Watch just one round of this fight and see how Pernell just counters him over and over again. [yt]4yJhZS8Sg1k[/yt] He parries his jab and throws one back He pulls back and throws a left cross over his jab He slips his left cross and comes with a right hook to the body Moves out the way of the left hook and counters with a double jab slips to the outside of his jab and throws a jab to his stomach back catches a right hook to the body and throws a left hook back I got all of this from 1 round and there where more counters that I missed, but they were mixed in with combos, so I didn't catch them all
