I think it's fair to say that Antonio Margarito most likely has loaded gloves when he fought Miguel Cotto for the first time. This newspaper article notes:

"Cotto last week showed the presenter Max Kellerman a photo of Margarito celebrating in the ring after their first fight – and Margarito's left-hand wrap, with a blood-stained section, is missing a chunk of gauze — just as it had before the Mosley fight."

Given that Margarito had loaded gloves on the night of that fight, do you think this is the primary cause of his decline?

Plaster has absolutely nothing to do with hand-face coordination.

Oh hells yes. A line was drawn through Cotto's career the moment that plaster **** in Margo's gloves started hardening up.

    1) it was not blood on the hand wrap there is no possible way Blood made its way through the glove and on to the wrap Cotto admitted it was Dye from the inside of the glove, check out 24/7 Margarito Cotto 2 episode one where is confirmed.

    2) he is focused solely on that one picture that does look suspect, However this is what it is Bottom line Cotto got his ass beat fair and square he is using the "Cheated" Argument to justify his quitting:deal

Well yea. The man took Cotto's virginity so that had to be a big blow to his confidence..

Not only was he damaged physically, but mentally, he was scarred for life..

And btw, that black thingy on Margarito's handwraps were buggers.. Margarito said so during the 24/7..

If Cotto did not suffer any permanent injuries after the fight then there is no reason to think that Margo is responisble for Cotto's recent decline.
Cotto was smart enough to bow out before things could have gone worst, like a messed up eye or broken jaw or a blood clot. I mean i think Cotto was messed up mentally finding out that his O was taken due to someone cheating more than anything.

    no doubt about it

Cotto 5 years ago was absolutley devastating. No no wanted any of him. Margo didnt just take him, he took ALL of him. For 7-8 rounds Margarito got beaten to a pulp..... poor Cotto didnt realize Margarito loves pain

Are you serious? Even without permanent injuries, getting battered for 11 rounds with bricks must leave a permanent psychological effect.

Sounds to me from the interviews is that he was more tired than hurt. Being tired is what caused him to get hit. And as soon as he started getting hit, he said the hell with this.

Does taking heavy punishment in a fight shorten ones boxing career?

You act like Judah and Torres didnt damage him prior to his fight with Margarito, a style like that in which you get hit is going to shorten your career sooner or later.
Cottos decline started from Margarito, but I think Pacquiao beat him much worse and that was the icing

It does but for the most part it has to due to several concussions and prolong beatings. Cotto knew his whereabouts at the time and it was a decision that he chose not to get up. The thing is that he showed that he bounced back from that loss and have several good performances. Most of his bad performances is still due to his lack of conditioning.
