Hold On.....The Golovkin - Ishida fight ISN'T on HBO?!

Dude, trust me on this. Not to sound like a condescending ***** or anything but I've followed Ishida longer than about everyone on ESB (unless we have some low-profile Japanese posters).

I'm one of the few that sought out the interim WBA title match between him and Rigo Alvarez - and if you didn't see it live, you missed the boat as I believe it's yet to surface anywhere on the web.

Ishida mostly outboxed him, but Rigo shook him up a few times and was able to track him down with his amateur-hour pressure style. This is Rigoberto Alvarez. Canelo's brother. To give you an idea of the gap in talent between them - Bobby Pacquiao is closer to Manny than Rigo is to Saul. Got it? His power is okay, nothing special. He had Ishida on his bike.

Kirkland obviously has great power and would make a fine barometer, but he got bum-rushed and never got a chance to really land in earnest on Ishida.

Williams and Pirog can both punch and yes he went a combined 24 with them and never fell, but neither is in Golovkin's neighborhood. They both concentrated on keeping up with Ishida's busy, slappy work-rate (Williams dwarfing it with his own :fight; Pirog trying to balance it out with his quality of work but not really gunning for a KO). Neither punches with the mean intentions that Golovkin always eventually does at some point in the ring. Ishida doesn't always box tall and makes defensive sacrifices to keep up that work rate. He'll be there for Golovkin, and given what I know of Golovkin's power and what glimpses Rigo showed me of Ishida's shakiness, that WILL be a knockout.

This was never going to be on HBO. This was an off HBO date to keep busy. It's been picked up by some obscure broadcaster. It's even on PPV in most of europe I think. I can't find any TV channels airing at least.

 

It's understandable that overseas posters would be confused over this, but American posters really have no excuse if they've been following the sport for a bit. Lemme remind you how this works:

If you have an overseas fight that cannot find a cable distributor and has any minor interest here, sometimes they'll put it on cheap independent ("integrated sports") ppv just to give it any kind of outlet. Haye Valuev for example. They are not doing it to make money, they'll probably be happy with 20k buys. The ppv has barely any production costs; they're picking up a foreign feed, all they gotta do is cover Bob Sheridan's fee, travel, and food tab.

 

why would HBO pay for this ****?

 

They wouldn't especially 2 months after GGG's last HBO date. Nobody gets featured that often on HBO. For this fight Epix would be a better fit. Or better yet Weath TV, is there a better fit for boxing's return to Monte Carlo? But for whatever reason they didn't seize the opportunity.

 

Since they are missing out on GBPs top guys now, they should be pushing their top stars as often as possible now.

 

I'd actually heard around the Rosado fight that they would be looking to put him back on in June, while he took an interim fight elsewhere in between so this isn't that surprising.

 

It's very affordable at $24.95
