Confirmation - St Pierre has the most technically sound top game in world MMA

The fact is that ufc is just an mma organisation the same as pride was and they can change there rules or judging if they see fit. In the interest of more exciting fights they could move to stop the takedown being scored so highly and score for stopping in effective takedown or score more for going for subs and working off the bottom rather than scoring for lying in top position and going for the odd strike.
I am a fan of mma i have watched every ufc and also pride since they started and i feel i have seen enough to see that the way things are going at the moment are not going towards having the most exciting fights.

 

No the FACT is that they have to abide by the same rules agreed upon when they first sought approval for sanctioning by the athletic commission.
Its all a compromise son.. not saying they cant change things but its not always as easy as just a wave of danas hand. there are ALOT of hoops to jump through

The only thing I want to add is that I don't have any background in grappling combat whatsoever and I'm not a real fan of GSP....but the way he transitioned from one side to another, how he kept Diaz down and how he neutralized everything he tried was a beauty to watch !

 

Changing the judging is as easy as a wave of dana's hand, i agree on rule changes being alot more difficult but just choosing if takedowns etc score more or stuffed takedowns etc its easy to change.

 

GSP Vs Maia would not be the same IMO. I think GSP would keep that standing throughout despite his incredible top game. And in a bad kickboxing match Maia loses :-(

 

Yeah, there is no chance GSP would take Maia to the ground. Completely shutting down Diaz is definitely impressive, but Maia is just in another world.

Maia's approach recently has been brilliant, though, and has worked against some pretty good wrestlers in Fitch and Story. GSP's footwork would have to be on point to avoid any clinching.

I'd like to see Maia/Ellenberger. Very dangerous fight for Demian, but if he won, he would deserve a shot at the title.

 

no its not. dana doesnt appoint the judges, the state athletic commission does. i might be wrong but i remember reading somewhere that dana isnt even actually allowed to speak to the appointed judges and the commission sends out a supervisor to enforce this.
He has complained long and loud about the state of judging and their lack of understanding of mma

 

i would agree with these statements if maia wasnt so much bigger than gsp. i dont see any way that gsp keeps his back off the cage against the current aggressive version of maia.
if that turns out to be the case he may not have any choice but to revert to the takedown the same as he did when diaz started walking through his punches.
if that happens things get very interesting

 

Maia can be one of my favorite fighters to watch when he is on his game on the ground but when he starts to think that the stand up game is his forte then not so much.
I hope they fast track Maia into a title fight with GSP would be entertaining to see how GSP does on the ground with Maia

 

Sorry but you are wrong mate, he can;t chose who judges the fight but he can choose how they score fights, he can choose if pointless takedowns are scored highly compared to going for subs etc. The ufc set out the way they wanted fights judged and have never changed it, the reason he complain about the judges is they might not be the best people to judge mma, that doesn't stop him changing the way ufc scores moves in fights.

 

No mate. below is the judging criteria from the NSAC (nevada state athletic commision) and its set out this way so that someone who has never seen an mma fight will have the ability to judge one. this is actually from marc ratner himself and was agreed upon way back when the UFC were chasing regulation..
Dana has no control over this and to change any of the criteria would require lobbying to the NSAC otherwise they dont sanction UFC events.

if you judged it to the letter, soooo many fights would be different.
some of the criteria is actually terrible. like if fighter A lands 50 clean jabs and fighter B lands 3 hooks and makes his nose bleed fighter B would win the round based on "efficiency and damage"

I cant agree with that personally

 

The actual rules come from the abc not the nsac, the nsac is for Nevada i.e Las Vegas and just gives them a license to have the event in Las Vegas, the actual unified rules have changed before and ufc has rejected the change because they thought it might effect the nsac licensing there fights.
They could ask the nsac if they would sanction events with different rules.

 

mate we arent talking about rules of an organisation (such as the UFC, bellator etc..), were talking about judging criteria for the uniform sport of MMA.
Its like don king all of a sudden deciding knees are ok in all his fights.
he cant just snap his fingers and make that decision because it wont get sanctioned by a governing body.
