So you made that statement, on JMM's lack of power, w/o doing any research, or knowing anything about his career from more then a few years back? :-(
I dunno, it feels to me as if Floyd doesn't use as much lateral movement at times partly due to preference. He tends to back up in straight lines to the ropes because he feels he can best the other guy there; Floyd seems more the kind of fighter that if he finds something that works during a fight, he'll keep on using it over and over again until the opponent figures it out and then he'll switch it up. If its working, why stop if the opponent doesnt have a solution
:deal JMM may very well be better at lateral movement than Floyd as he's been using it and used to using it more often.. But I don't think Floyd's lack of lateral movement is because he doesn't know how to or isn't quite good at it... He's not recently been in a situation where he'd lose the fight because of not moving lateral, and he seems to do what's easiest for him in the ring..
I have never seen so many people get owned by one poster in such an intelligent manner. The gent is on top of his game today and he's checking bull**** with a vengeance.:yep
Punches harder and fights inside better. My opinion is Mayweather was faster taller and had a longer reach and Marquez is a back-foot fighter but had to force this fight which didn't suit him.
No proof along with the chance that every if not most boxers are on drugs as well as athletes in general. But no, Floyds squeaky clean. This is General remember. Classic can get outta hand too but recently theres been a couple great threads I recommend that forum. Reason I'm in general really is lack of other people to talk boxing with (only my dad and my friend) along with discussing upcoming fights that interest me. Floyd touches the ropes pretty much everytime when pressured. "He loves the inside" argument gets nullified as Hopkins and Toney are great there and dont get backed up that easily(well Toney early HW days and esp cruiser). Whether its an IQ thing or ego thing(both but much more from lack of IQ I think) its still a flaw and not bright at all to be so eager to get there. Cotto def put him in those spots for instance so most of it is not Floyds doing. Actually the Barrera win is comparable if not better than DLH. People get carried away with Floyd many times. Casa a less-disciplined Zab I've heard it all...:verysad Hopkins is the best defender in the game along with Klits imho who also have solid footwork. That and he's been very athletic most of his career and definitely much faster/quicker than his opponents. Only guy that came close athletically was Zab but it didn't get him the W despite the speed and patience making Floyd uncomfortable. Interesting how the rest of Floyd's career will pan out but I've always said he uses his reflexes a bit too much opposed to technique.
Mayweather has never controlled the mid-distance too well unless he's fighting a genuinely flat footed fighter. That's why he's always getting into corners and the ropes when someone moves on him. He'll stick and move or he'll plant in a Don curry sort of stance on the outside and beat fighters with speed and precise punchpicking, but he doesn't really integrate movement and punching at what could be called a classic textbook boxing distance too often.Never really controls the ring-centre with it. It's not too much of a weakness because he's good on the inside and can dictate outfighting by those other means i mentioned, but it is one of his bigger technical weaknesses and a main reason of why fights like castillo, Chavez, Hoya and even the early-mid rounds with Hatton played out the way they did.
Personally I saw the opposite. Floyd jabbed and move in round 1, and got backed up for most of the rest of the fight. Floyd can make quick side-steps to exit the corner and scurry back towards the center, but usually gives it up again if rushed. By the end Floyd was becoming more offensive but he wasn't controlling the center IMO.
There's that favorite GIF of yours where Hoya tripled jabbed or so rushing Floyd straight back to the ropes. That was the turning point as Floyd never allowed himself to be backed up in that manner again.
