You need to take into consideration the landscape of things today, and compare them to the 90's. The internet and shows like 24/7 are HUGE sellers of a fighter.

Anyway, think Floyd could sell 700K buys against someone s shop work as Yory Boy?

There's a reason floyd ONLY fights on the two Mexican holidays. Has a built in fan base who will buy whomever fights on those dates, for the most part (if they are established). DLH, while he did that later in his career, wasn't only using those dates to stage his PPVs.

Basically, you really can't compare the two with just numbers. However, DLH was a household name and mainstream star for pretty much his ENTIRE career. Floyd only for the last 5-7 years.

Put it this way, Floyd has PPV sales more then Ali. No way in hell is he more known or popular then ali.

  5. PPV does not equal bigger.

Mainstream attention equals bigger(Talking about the States that is, I know Boxing is a pretty big sport in certain parts of Europe atm and of course MexicO). Now Floyd+Pacquaio do have a lot of mainstream attention, but Oscar was at a time when boxing was still a pretty big sport overall instead of just 2 stars like it is now

When Oscar was fighting in the 90's ... main stream focus was definitely on boxing.. because of Tyson and the heavyweights.. Oscar also played a big part in this.

I mention this because it's EASIER to be a bigger draw when you are NOT competing with heavyweights for attention.

Floyd is a mega star in an era without heavyweights. Oscar was a mega star in an era with heavyweights.. That is a huge difference.

Can Floyd still be a megastar in an era where Tyson-Bowe-Holyfield-Lewis commanded so much attention?? Debatable.

Yet, Floyd has done over a million more times in half as many events.

    Good points. :deal

  8. Once again the bottom line is this:

Oscar was a mega star competing against heavyweights.

Floyd compete against Seth Mitchell and EPIX Klitschkos ...

    there is a difference.

Trust me.. the amount of Floyd fans will be cut in half if there was a Holyfield vs Bowe super clash in today's internet and virtual marketing era.
