calzaghe vs lacy: My first super fight, what was yours?

Discussion in 'British Boxing Forum' started by Alan_Francis_85, Mar 22, 2013.

  1. I was 15 when my dad took me to hampden park to see Tyson, the 30 odd second beat down was not the performoance of a lifetime but was still a memory ill cherish.

At 19 I watched joe come good. I stupidly thought Lacy would win, also met Alex Arthur in a pub nearby, who assured me calzaghe would win, he was with micheal gomez, got a pic of the 3 of us.

Anyhoo, Ive never been so happy to be wrong!

Anyone there? or any other good fights?

    share..

Lacy was always a vulnerable fighter, but his left shoulder literally tore when he fought Tysypko for the second time, and he was never the same again. I think Prime Lacy would have KO'd Jones(not prime but the post Tarver Jones), horrible end to a potentially great career with Jeff Lacy

    You are an idiot.

Jeff Lacy looked like a beast when he bounced Robin Ried around the ring for 7 rounds like no one had done before or even after now

Very, very few of the so called experts here picked Calzaghe.Probably on a par with Clay/Liston and Ali/Foreman.They thought he was monster when he stopped Reid, not at peak then and a far better fighter than for the Anderson fight, and an iron chin.Whats being said about Jones just shows what happens to a boxers reputation when he goes on too long.

Everyone forgets about that. Also, the beating Calzaghe gave him must have taken something out of him mentally, one moment he's on the brink of a p4p status the next he's received arguably the most humiliating beating ever in a world title fight then he gets a really bad injury which could be career threatening. What does that do to your motivation?

I can remember the first Leonard-Hearns fight and Ali-Holmes but the first superfight I really remember getting really excited about was Hagler-Hearns.

First fight I vividly remember really getting amped up for was Whitaker/Chavez the two best p4p fighters at the time. That was big for me. It almost killed my enthusiasm though.
