What about other orgs, like Bellator making their fighters sign contracts that can be extended indefinitely? How does that fit into the equation?
As the UFC stands today it has all the best of the best and thus making their champ the division champ. Same thing with football Champions league is where everyone wants to be if you win it your the best team
I dont think there's much of an argument to be had here, personally. The best talent is in the UFC, and its certainly the place that aspiring fighters want to be. Due to a lot of things, the money is increasing, the fame and general public awareness. And of course the fact that generally, most of the top MMA fighters are contracted to it.
Nah it's Alvarez, cause he beat Aoki after he lost to Chandler ! And don't get me wrong, I see what you mean but if you follow the trails like you said, BF is now the lineal HW champ. It's just funny to think about !
How so? If HBO had most (not all) of the best fighters and created an "HBO belt" would you respect that?
which divisions in the UFC would you say currently dont contain the best MMA fighters? If HBO created a promotion with lets say, Garcia, Khan, Judah, Matthysse, Peterson, Rios etc etc, and in a period of a couple of years i knew they'd generally all fight each other, then yea, id view the top dog of that pile as the best. Theres just not any competition from rival organisations in MMA at the current time
For example GSP, considered the best, a 'world champion' if you like, as he's consistently beaten the guys around him. Sure, there may be a young star out there somewhere, who theoretically could be better than him. But you can guarantee if there is, his aim is to get into the UFC and fight for GSPs belt and status as number 1. Just my opinion, of course
This, and if that star is still burning he will be fighting in the premiere organization in the World someday, if he so chooses too :!:. Times change, but now it's like The Golden Age of Boxing with 8 different weight classes and stacked cards every month. Us Mixed Martial Arts fans never had it so good and fight fans in general haven't had it like this since The Gillette Cavalcade of Sports. The UFC has a ranking system, tournaments, mandatory Contenders, and Interim Champions. They got an organizational Title like everyone else, but it's totally legit. They got the 10 best fighters in the World too. It's as good as it gets as they got different sanctioning bodies across the World (I believe), yet the best are still fighting the best under one banner. Like in Boxing, the only "real rankings" are of the professionals who cover the Sport.
the UFC belt is as the name suggests "the ultimate" and much the same way as the wbc title is the most sought after belt in boxing and the most highly prized by the fighters themselves.
The UFC rankings only consist of UFC fighters. Boxing rankings, even as corrupt as they are, consist of all boxers, right? GSP might be the best fighter in the world at 170 lb based on who he's faced. He still holds an organizational title rather than a world title.
