From Peter Fury, Tyson's trainer and uncle... @peterfury Some gossip for the fans I hear David Price asked mr Lenox Lewis to train him?
IF it's true then that's interesting, I didn't even know Lennox was a trainer. I'll be glad if he gets shot of Franny Smith though. Nice fella but he only knows the basics and that's been shown in how he and David approached and handled the Thompson fight. Pricey needs an experienced mind in his corner to take him to the next level.
Price might have just said it as a joke or something to Lennox, wouldn't mind you training me or something. Doubt it will be true, doubt Lennox would train him anyway.
@cohcfc @peterfury Train him? Lennox could still beat him. Is Lennox even a trainer? Great boxers don't mean great trainers.
Could be good for David in some advisory capacity, anyway.Hope he gets back soon against the inevitable easy one.Think Helenius would be a good bet after watching him last night, and then absolutely must rematch Thompson. That will hang over him if he doesn't.
I'm not convinced a change of trainer is what's necessary, I think a change of management is more important personally. It's interesting that it's almost always the trainer who gets the bullet when a fighter suffers a bad defeat - but more often I think it's the management that's the problem. Let's face it, Mismatch never really stepped him up in class at all - he didn't even want to stick him in with Tom Dallas until The Wooden One was shown up by an old, shot Zack Page. John McDermott wasn't a championship class fighter, Sam Sexton wasn't, Skelton wasn't any more and Harrison, as we all know is alright up to a certain level against certain types of opponent, until he crumbles in a big way. Thompson might be nearly 100 years old, and never really achieved much, but his record was respectable, and in recent times had only lost to Klitschko - it was a big step up in class, too big to do in one fell swoop at this stage of David's career. He should be back in action within a few weeks - it wasn't a particularly physically damaging defeat, wasn't as if he was bashed up for ten rounds or brutally one-shotted ala Lewis-Rahman.... but instead it'll be a fair spell on the sidelines before an easy one against an underwhelming opponent. Nothing wrong with a knockover job, or even two, but at least get them out of the ****ing way already.
I don't agree at all. It won't hang over him, he'll learn and move on. He doesn't need Thompson. Haye didn't re-fight Carl Thompson did he?
No he didn't and I take your point, but, and its only my opinion:Haye was younger then than Price was when losing, and Im almost sure Carl wasn't 40 years old.Contrary to what some say, don't feel that David has stacks of time left and I reckon it'd do his confidence a lot of good if he beat Thompson, which he should do.If the return was possible, tell me why not?
I think he needs to change both. You are right though the jump from Sexton to Thompson was to high. I don't think there was anything with fighting those 5 British opponents there should have been 2-3 fights inbetween I don't see how getting someone thats never trained a fighter before will help him though.
Certainly agree that Thompson was too big a step at this stageThink the choice of opponents could have been better, and also that he could have been out more often.Maybe a steady build up of opposition that would have put him farther on quicker.
Is David Price playing hide and seek..? No word of his return! Looks like he is crumbling mentally, and has no self confidence.
Would probably do wonders for Price's confidence, totally agree., however a win over Helenius or Boytsov would do more IMO. My point is that Thompson needs Price more than Price needs him...
