Canelo Alvarez is NOT beating Austin Trout

More and more I'm thinking Trout. Hope Canelo wins though. Trout just isn't exciting.

 

Wrote this a while ago for a threat that got deleted by that banned racist poster. I think these should be Canelo's tactical priorities, and my gut feeling is that Canelo will prevail with them in a competitive fight.

Well Canelo does have a habit of following his opponents around the ring. He'll waste too much energy trying to do that against Trout. IMO what he should do is control the center without wasting too much energy. Let Trout dance around and fling his jab while Canelo hangs back without obliging any follow-up punches. He should still pressure, but use smart pressure. Control the center, take little side-steps to cut off the exits. He's not going to imitate Chavez Jr. and try to swarm him, nor should he.

Once in that rhythm, start throwing punches in the direction that Trout is moving. After throwing, Trout likes to pull away; these are the spots Cotto caught him most often with. So as Trout skids along the perimeter, if he shifts to the right, take a step and throw a left hook to the body (which is relatively open given Trout's height). Likewise, if Trout moves to his left, feint a jab and throw a right up top and follow up with a combination. Canelo has the height and reach to catch him like this, unlike Cotto. This is going to wear him down, limit his movement, and make Trout more anxious to come forward and get his offense going.

Whenever Trout steps into his shots, Canelo's best bet is to throw with Trout. Slip the southpaw jab leftward and time a straight right down the middle, again following up with combinations to the head and body. Anytime Trout comes close with a jab, throw a left hook up or downstairs and follow up with a straight right. The more hesitant he makes Trout to move, or throw, the more opportunities Canelo will have to corner and wail away.

His parrying will also be key to advancing without walking into anything and opening up paths for his own punches. Knock the right jab down, keep the right hand high prepare to catch the left, etc.

 

Austin Trout is a good fighter but he beat an overrated Cotto. This fight could go either way but I'm leaning Canelo because Trout isn't as good as people make him out to be.

Canelo is only 22 so hes still improving pretty fast should be a good scrap..

 

A win over Cotto is better than anything Alvarez has accomplished.

i have yet to see a single thread here comparing trout to any great fighter, past or present.

yet we have douchebags here mentioning canelo alvarez in the same sentence with tyson, toney, holyfield, vargas and donald curry.

have you ever come to think that maybe Canelo isn't as good as people make him out to be?

 

chasing around trout will probably hurt saul in the later rounds. a slower-paced fight, where he can plant, fire and grapple austin while limiting trouts superior footwork, will probably be canelos best plan of attack. wear austin down physically by any and all means possible to take away his legs.

that being said, what if trout is actually stronger than canelo in the clinch ala winky/mosely? shane, normally accostomed to having advatages in speed, power and strength over his opponents, had only the speed advantage against winky and convincingly lost twice.

if this were to be the case, canelos chances of winning would be severely limited.

because there is no doubt that trout, as most all 154's, has superior footwork to canelo with speed probably being equal and presumably strength going to canelo.

going to be a great fight from the first round.

 

Easy to show improvement when your opponents suck.

With that said I am favoring Trout big time but to act like Canelo has no shot is ridiculous and is one of the reasons I despise this forum.

Actually a win over a shot cotto is no different than a win over a shot Mosley or a shot Cintron or hell even a live out weighed Lopez

TBH a win over Delvin Rodriguez IMO is better than anything Canelo has done

 

Mosley hadn't won a fight in 3 years. Cintron had struggled in his previous fight on ESPN and got shutout before that by Carlos Molina.

Lopez was fighting at 140 not even that long ago and isn't the best at 147, let alone 154.

Cotto had just given Floyd a decent fight, so I'm not sure how all the sudden Cotto is shot.

 

I know it said in the OP how Saul had trouble with Rhodes when he turned South Paw, but what other South Paws had Canelo fought?

Wonder if it will play a role in this throw down?
