Can we re-animate George Benton, buy him a nice little flat in East London and have him train Joshua? Failing that, what trainers learned from Benton around the time he was training heavyweights in the 80's/90's?
I like the kid but he would be mad to turn pro, He will get smashed to bits. Even Audley had better fundamentals. Look at the kids footwork and the way he throws his right hand. Robotic.
He's a better athlete than you give him credit for. It will be a learning curve for him but he's got all the right attributes to go far imo.
Although Joshua is a long way from the finished article, I still think he's better off going pro sooner rather than later. Hanging around in the amateurs just means he'll take longer to adjust to the pro's and it's not like he'll be thrown straight in at the deep end if he does turn pro. He'll be carefully managed and probably won't fight a live opponent in his first 2/3 years anyway. Booth is the wrong man for the job and will be busy with Haye and Groves anyway, McCracken is a good shout I think and they know each other already.
Hope he does turn pro, he got a few faults,not many boxers without any though, add to the fact he been boxing what 4 years or something silly i heard before olympics, great effort so far
Should've stayed amateur for a few more years. He has only been boxing for 4 years apparently. He will end up being thrown in too deep too quick in the pro's because of the money invested in him and the hype generated in the media.
WSB would have been perfect imo, 5x3s against quality opposition with no real pressure. Even if he had picked up a loss or 2 it would not have affected his stock to a great degree (outside of getting sparked) and he would have learned so much fighting abroad. Now we have a still raw talent who will spend the next 3 years blasting out low level fighters. Hope he gets plenty of good sparring.
Its what i though....think Booth is a very good trainer...like to know why he dosent rate him. Joshua is well overatted, go destroyed by Savon and would not beat Usyk or Hrgovic.
