Nevin is a great Amateur no doubt.
Not sure I would agree he is our best ever but that really is subjective in my opinion.
One thing though, I really hope he can adapt his style a bit more offensively.
If the scoring in Rio changes to pro style scoring his hit and run tactics will get him to the quarters or maybe even semi's no doubt but I think the last box which is unticked is his ability to throw more combos. He seems to be throwing a lot of counters lately in the WSB but I'd love to see him throw punches in bunches with that hand speed of his.

Id definitely like to see him throw more combinations, the occasions when he does open up and get agressive he looks pure. Thats really the only thing that you can fault him on though. I know it would help his style in Rio, and maybe im in the mibority here, id like to see him quit the amateur game and turn pro like he was going to do last year. At 27 he'd be leaving it a bit late to turn pro at the lower weights come Rio.

thats a valid point but should a 3 fight novice with this class of opposition get sanctioned to box for an irish title in the first place,
    http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=551394&cat=boxer

on the same grounds Mickey Coveney has lost his last 8 on the trot and he has got sanctioned to box for the title again,

Now i really want to see more irish title fights as much as any Irish fight fan but is this demeaning the title and past title holders a bit?

I think to a point they can. I mean with the way things are going we're gonna have débutantes fighting for the Irish title, and I'm not talking Olympic/World medallists or even Irish amateur champions which you could almost justify, but fighters with lesser amateur backgrounds than that.

3-0 without an 8 rounder behind him is not enough for a man to be fighting for the Irish title imo. The Coveney situation is every bit as bad aswell.

I'd love to see him turn pro now as regards best ever amateur..

hes got 2 world medals and an olympic medal

I also think if he had have won the gold he would have won the val barker award on the strength of his semi final win... :deal
