:| No seriously, I wonder what Merchant would have been saying about the Bradley -Provodnikov Dipset4Ever
**** no, good riddance. I'm annoyed that he's calling this card: http://www.boxingforum24.com/showthread.php?t=460655 ...thought I was done having to hear the blowhard. :-( At least we get Big George back, if only for one day.
Something cruel. Kellerman is turning into more and more of a clown as the years pass. They should give Ray Leonard a call.
I can't imagine he wouldn't be game. He obviously relishes in the spotlight; The Contender has been off-air for several years, and he's been reduced to shucking and jiving on Dancing With The Stars along with no-marks like Victor Ortiz who aren't pimples on his ass in the ring.
I'd gladly welcome a full-time Big George return over Larry Merchant purely for his Foremanisms and head-scratching insight.
:nod Unlike Merchant, Foreman brought humor. (albeit unintentional - whereas Merchant tried hard & failed) Foreman also brought championship experience, as did Lennox and Roy, while Larry never achieved squat in the ring and really didn't know as much about the sport as you'd expect a lifelong journalist of it to know.
I liked Merchant and couldnt see why people didnt like him it was just once his delivery slowed down (not fast to begin with) he had to go Then again im not a snob about commentary i have more of a problem when Lampley and Lederman sell something thats not there
Good observation about Merchant's insight. He was great occasionally for his cynical comments, one-liners, and instigating during interviews, but any technical insight he provided, or thoughts on the trends, patterns, and momentum shifts of the fight itself, were relatively basic. Bernstein is miles ahead of Merchant in that regard. Merchant was cool at times. An old-school journalist, although his act grew really stale over the past few years. And........he.....took.................forever.......... to say..... what.... was.... on..... his.... mind.
